NPC Disposition not increasing when it should?
So. I have both Skyrim Special Edition and Legendary Edition (due to being credited with a free Special Edition, thanks to owning the Legendary Edition.)

I did my first run through the game, unmodded, with the Special Edition.

Now I'm just re-starting with the Legendary Edition, with a few fairly minor mods, and discovering that the Disposition of characters does not seem to be increasing the way it should.

For instance: I have chopped wood for Hod and sold him the firewood, and I have bought Embry a drink of ale or mead (I've tried giving him Ale, Honningbrew Mead and Black-Briar Mead), and even stolen the Argonian Ale for Brenuin and given it to him. This should increase their disposition towards me, up to 1. Instead, it remains at 0.

I have completed the quest for deciding which of her suitors Camilla Valerius might prefer, in Faendal's favour. His disposition, too, remains at 0, rather than being 1 or higher). Sven's is also 0, instead of -1. Nevertheless, Faendal is available as a follower.

What's up?

The mods in question that I have are:

- Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch
- Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1
- Become a Bard
- Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers
- Unleveled Items
- Instant Mining
- Miscellaneous Quests as Miscellaneous Quests.

Are any of these known to cause issues with disposition-raising quests in Legendary Edition?

USLEEP is not the problem. Something is editing your NPC dispos. See if anything is messing with those attributes using xEdit.

Erm. I don't understand the answer. What is xEdit, and how am I supposed to use it? Let's put it this way, I barely know how to use console commands, and certainly am not experienced with other third-party programs. Can you explain in SIMPLE terms?

xEdit is short for TES/FO Edit. In this case you would be using TES5Edit. Which is what you should have downloaded first in order to clean your master files prior to modding. It does more than just clean, however, it is able to merge mods as well as have the ability to create your own mods. It color codes any overwrites or removed entries from the original Beth esms so you can see at a glance if a mod is making unwanted changes.

...All a bit confusing for me. It's like offering me a pneumatic drill with a manual in Klingon, to crack a walnut!

Isn't there anybody who simply (a) knows any of the tiny number of mods above and (b) can say whether there are any ALREADY KNOWN issues with any of them? Has any other person experienced this issue before? That's the sort of thing I want to know.

Also: The fact that Faendal is still willing to become my follower, suggests to me that it's the command itself displaying an incorrect value (i.e. that the actual value really is 1 but is being displayed by "getrelationshiprank" as 0). Is there something that can actually make console commands display the wrong value even though the game knows and holds the correct value?

Hm. One interesting thing that seems to be happening - and it's happening in Special Edition as well as Legendary, with the same set of mods:

Even typing "setrelationshiprank" to set someone's relationship rank to 1 or higher, seems to not work, and automatically defaults on setting it to 0, or at least, reports this. BUT they're all giving me the friendly talk, so I think it's a display error in the console command... I wonder how this could be possible?

Either that or something is somehow switching the target so that "getrelationshiprank" is giving the relationship rank between them and somebody else, rather than them and me... I wonder what could be causing that...

...DOH!. Sorted. It wasn't a mod or mod conflict at all: I needed to type "player.getrelationshiprank refID" rather than simply "getrelationshiprank refID". The disposition was indeed increasing properly. SOLVED...

Just one note - It is not recommended to use console commands in the game unless it is specifically required to fix a problem and the command is suggested by the UESP wiki ( http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyrim ) or, to get information (such as you used to find out the relaionship rank).

As to modding the game, if you wish to do it properly, you absolutely MUST read the following, and do all that they say you need to do:
