How exactly does the Shrouded Cowl work?
I always thought that if you commit a crime with it on, you wont get a bounty, but guards are telling me that I have a bounty for a crime I ommoted while wearing it.

You're thinking of the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, which doesn't appear in Skyrim, only a bust of the Gray Fox wearing the Cowl does.

Well what does a concealed identity do for you then?

I'm guessing this shrouded cowl is from a mod, possibly a CC mod?

If so only those who have used that mod can tell you.

Shrouded Cowl and Worn Shrouded Cowl are Dark Brotherhood hoods, those types that DB assassins wear with the masks. I think Weapons/Armor fixes by Kryptopyr or Clothing Clutter fixes makes alot of the non-playable ones, playable so you can take them off assassins.

Enchanted versions basically give you a boost in Archery Damage.

If its from a mod, then why would he not just ask it on the official mod page, and even if nothing was answered, why not state the specific mod

Skyrim has been out how long and people still don't know about the Dark Brotherhood?

There are no artifacts in vanilla skyrim that give you two identities in regard to crimes, therefore the OP is either using a mod or is mistaken about what the shroud does.

That's the entire point of the thread. I'm asking what the Shroud actually does.

But what mod is it from? The vanilla shrouded cowl is just a dark brotherhood hood - a non-enchanted version, and an enchanted version with gives extra damage for Archery. So you must have a mod installed which adds a different shrouded cowl or changes the shrouded cowl to something else to do with concealing your identity, cos that's not in vanilla skyrim.

A mod to do with changing armor and clothing effects? A mod to do with the Dark Brotherhood? A mod to do with disguise and thieving?

Well, my shrouded cowl roughly says "+20% bow damage. This item conceals your identity".

As far as I've ever known, the concealed identity part has always been in the game, I dont recall it not being there ever. It could very well be a mod.

Looks like you are using a mod that lets you conceals your identity when wearing any helmet or mask that covers you're face. That's not in vanilla. Is it this one maybe - Sneak Tools? says on the description page it conceals identity when wearing masks.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19447/?

edit - found this on the first page of the mod's discussion thread.

Q. The identity concealing masks don't seem to be working for me... I put the mask on undetected, commit a crime, and remove it undetected and my character gets the bounty. Anyone got any ideas as to a fix, or am I doing it wrong?

A. I believe you need to wait 24 hours for the mask bounty to go away. Go hide out in the Shadow's Refuge. :)

It's the "this item conceals your identity" that isn't vanilla content.
It has to be added by a mod, and therefore we don't know what it does, if anything.

Well yeah, but someone gave me the exact answer I was looking for.

Oh, Good, glad that's sorted.
