Do I need to install Dawnguard, Dragonborn, AND Hearthfire to be able to install unofficial patches and mods?
So I have the original edition Skyrim, as well as Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs. I was planning to try a bunch of mods, plus I read that there is a much recommended unofficial patch. In order to ensure that the mods work and the unofficial patch can be applied, do I need to buy Hearthfire and install that along with Dawnguard and Dragonborn? Or can I safely ignore Hearthfire? I have zero interest in Hearthfire unless it's needed for stability patches or mods.

They are all requirements for the unofficial Skyrim patch. So yes you need it to use USLEEP.
You totally ignore any quests regarding Heathfire in your game however, all depends on you.

Originally there were separate unofficial patches for the separate DLC's though whether they are still available somewhere, I'm not sure.
Quick google search brings up sites like the following, however which patches you select and apply for each of your legacy DLC mods.

Each should be installed after the master DLC they are to patch in your load order.

It largely depends on the mods in question. If a mod requires a certain DLC, you pretty much NEED that particular DLC. USLEEP ( which is the unofficial patch) requires all three DLC's, as it's a collection of four patch mods that used to be separate. However, since the release of LE, those four mods have been combined into one mod, and it requires all three DLCs in order to work. For the purposes of using USLEEP, Dawnguard and Dragonborn won't be enough. You're gonna need Hearthfire, too.

Hearthfires is needed for quite a lot of mods, so it's best to have it.
