i do not believe race has any kind of influence on this. Can you explain what exactly is happening?, or perhaps if you have mods installed.

Unfortunately there is no way to do all companion quests and NOT become a werewolf. Unless there are mods that can get around quest and quest story requirements.

As a new companion you can tell Skor and Aela that you don't accept the werewolf blood, when it's offered. however that stops the quests from progressing ... as far as I know.

:Edit
Oooh there is a mod "Skyrim Companions No Werewolf Option" at nexus I have no idea how it works or whether it's stable

Altmer =/= Thalmor. Just because the Thalmor are mentally-handicaped doesn't mean your character needs to be too.

If it's that big a problem for you, then Companions may not be the questline for you, especially you remake an axe designed to kill Elves.

Dawnguard might be problematic too.

There's no way to avoid becoming a werewolf and still do the Companions questline, as it's required for that questline. However, the final quest in the questline gives you a chance to cure yourself of lycanthropy, if you do it right.
