Is Staff of Magnus Really Level 20+ ???
Working through the Mage College quests and am now up to the Staff of Magnus. I checked some guides and they are saying level 20 minimum and ideally level 24 to do it. I just leveled my Mage to level 10 doing the quest before that one--so do I really have to get to 20+ in order to finish the College quest line? I know Skyrim does not have the Oblivion system of matching mobs to your current level, so perhaps it is so. Just wondering how I got this far along in the quest line at level 9-10 if you need 20+ to do the final two parts of it...

The game allows you to do anything at any level. Wether or not you succeed is dependant on your game play. If you have the right plan and equipment you could pull it off. Those are recomendations based on types of challenges/enemies you will face.

If you should decide to tackle it, I suggest you make a clean/hard save before starting so that you can try differant ideas if you keep getting killed.

Also the game will let you come back to the quest if you should decide to level up somemore.

Not quite, some quests have a level requirement before they become available.
Other than that, yeah you can attempt any quest open to you.

True, I forgot to mention that there are certain quest that only activate at specific levels. Thanks for the reminder.

LOL...thanks for the replies! I just was thinking 20-24 was a big step up from level 9-10. I played Skyrim 5-6 years ago and recently played Oblivion with a Spellsword up to level 20ish and a Stealth character (I am now the Gray Fox). Decided to give Skyrim a shot and now I can't stop playing <g>

Also, if you really get in over your head and can't back out you can swallow your pride and lower your game's difficulty setting at any time, even the middle of a battle. I've had to use the "esc" key of shame from time to time.

Heck, if you want a fun nuclear option install https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26851 and start growing your own jarrin root. Jarrin root poison makes many problems just go poof!

Well I managed to complete the Mage College quest line at level 11-12 with the aid of the esc "key of shame" <g> I had to nerf the difficulty for the boss battles in the last two parts of the quest though....I just didn't want to get that far and not complete the quest line...I am now the Arch Mage of the College and the Grandmaster's Robe is pretty sweet! The 100% magika regen mask is very nice as well! BTW, do the buffs on armor stack? If I have one with 100% mana regen and I get another, do I now have 200% regen? The list of active effects doesn't show the overall results, just the list of individual effects...

Congrats! IDK about the buffs. Check the wikis?
