Action Bars
Any hope that someone might know of a mod that allows you to switch spells on the fly? I find it annoying that there's no such action bar and that using the menu interface to lock in spells for either right or left hand is extremely annoying to do, especially in the middle of combat. I'm trying to play a mage type character and I have level 75+ destruction, as well as alteration, illusion and conjuration schools around level 30. It's difficult to enjoy the game because I have to keep casting spells from each individual school of magic in order to help gain levels in the corresponding school of magic that I wish to gain levels in. I've looked at the most popular Sky UI and it's a small improvement over the default in-game UI, it's still not ideal for what I hope to achieve.

What exactly are you looking for? SkyUI literally allows you to switch spells on the fly.

I don't know why you guys say that you can switch spells on the fly with Sky UI. I tried it just now and I see I have three options: F, and M1 & M2. I can make every spell I have a Favorite spell but there's no quickie bar similar to the one in Fallout 4 where you can map spells to corresponding numbers on your keyboard. I would also like the added functionality of having additional action bars accessible by pushing CTRL or ALT keys, so I could have a default row of spells set to 1-0 and then additional spells mapped to CTRL+1-0 or ALT+1-0. The lack of this functionality drives me crazy.

You can assign spells to a number. Once you favorite a spell, open it in the favorites menu, mouse over a spell, and press a #.

SkyUI accepts 1-8 from what I've seen, but there could be more options, haven't really explored this functionality.

I have an axe set to 1, a bow set to 2, Soul Trap to 3, and Transmutate to 4.

there are 8 little symbols in the fav menu of SkyUI, while having the fav menu open
- press F for groups
- select the group you want
- select the spells you want
- voila!

When I push F, it does nothing when I'm at the Magic list or Items list. If I hover the mouse over an item, it adds a little star next to it and it adds the item to the favorites list. That's all it does.

I checked the "Mod Configuration" option in ESC menu and looked at the different options for Sky UI and I see there's an option there for "Favorite Groups", so it does exist. By default, it is bound by the F1 key for "Group 1" and so on for Group 2, Group 3 etc..

However, when I go back to either Magic or Item lists and hover mouse over anything and I push F1, it doesn't add it to any conceivable bar that I see. Nothing happens.

Is there any additional UI mods that either of you are using that might furnish this functionality within Sky UI? Maybe the feature is glitched in the most recent version. What version might you be using?

There is no quick key bar in SkyUI. At the very least, not the base version, which is what I use,

Once you assign an item to a # from the favorites menu, the corresponding # should pop up next to it.

Favorite a spell from the spell menu. Open up favorites. Mouse over spell. While the spell is selected, press a #.

You can also favorite spells and items just fine. I have two spells bound to 3 and 4.

I don't use the Favorite Groups thing, at all. Really, I didn't edit SkyUI in any way. I left it at default.

I'm using the latest SkyUI for OG Skyrim, most recent stable version.

So I started setting up individual groups. I set my destruction spells up in group 1. My Alteration spells in group 2. My illusion spells in group 3. And my dragon calls in group 4. When I go back to game mode, I can summon any group of spells I want to use by pushing F1, F2, F3, F4 respectively. That part works great.

Just one slight hang up. I can't seem to use individual assignments for the groups to the hotkey buttons 1-8. If I assign the first five destruction spells 1-5, then switch to group 2, and set the first four alteration spells to 1-4; it then removes the assignments for spells on the destruction group so they can be used with the alteration group instead.

Seems like their should be extra assignments allowed for each extra group you use. Am I being too complicated for a game like this?? Oh please, even world of warcraft allows you to use multiple assignments to multiple action bars. It would just be even cooler if Skyrim allowed you to do that too.

To the question yes - its a casual single player RPG and WoW is a MMORPG which was designed to have multiple skills on display.

Come ooonn, with a small stretch of the imagination, a little extra added functionality could make the game a lot more fun. After all, playing a game is all about control over what your character's abilities are. I admit, I could go all out with the 8 keys that I'm given but I'd much more prefer being able to summon a flame atronach, summon zombies, cast candlelight, oakflesh, ironflesh, fire bomb then default to fireball and sparks and switch back whenever i need to, as well as keeping self-heals in the pocket. Can't forget about the fireball and lightning staves. 8 keys is barely enough. 10 keys would be more ideal but why not allow the "-" and "=" keys; like FO4 does? And to grant a gamer who wants to be all powerful all the wiggle room he could possibly need: Just allow 8 groups worth of 12 buttons worth of abilitites at his disposal. Granted, my destruction ability is level 75 at the moment, with alteration, conjuration and illusion in their 20s-30s; if I suddenly wanted to go with a battle mage build for a few, then I could hotkey my favorite sword, shield and spell abilities that support the play style -- and switch between multiple play styles on the fly. And how neat would that be? I'd be overjoyed if I could do that in Skyrim because WoW is deceptively turn based although it seems like its real time. It all has to do with the GCD, that one second pause in between ability casts. You don't have that in skyrim, and it all depends on your energy. Yes, I'd agree with you, they are two very different games but that doesn't mean Skyrim can't have multiple groups with actions mapped to multiple hotkey setups. With that sort of rationale that its not a MMORPG, it makes me want to bleat like a goat and simply beg, "Whyyyy noooot??"

You could download a mod to autocast a few spells like oakflesh and ironflesh at the start of a fight. Don't know their names, but Brodual featured them at some point.

That should make it somewhat more bearable.
