The Pursuit quest glitch: on switch. Please help!!

Alright, here's my situation:

I play skyrim on the switch, so no console commands or modding can be done without outside influence.
I am level 40 on my main character.
I am currently doing the Thieves Guild questline and i am stuck on the pursuit quest.
I picked up mercer's plans before doing any of the Thieves Guild quests because i thought the Chillrend was a neat easter egg, as did many other players.
I have figured out how to activate the quest by dropping mercers plans in front of Karliah, speaking to her, getting the quest and picking the plans up again. The problem is, i can't drop the plans after i get the quest (as they become a quest item after the quest is started) to progress the quest.

Possible solutions:

I really do not want to go back when i didn't pick up the plans or create a new character, but i think these are the only ways to complete the quest.

I have tried to find ways without mods to drop quest items but only found a solution that was strictly quest weapons.

I saw that there was a way to keep items inside houses laying around if you have someone inside of the house that will not leave (maybe this only applies to your own house, i couldn't find out). I was thinking maybe i could leave my follower and drop the plans inside mercers house before talking to Karliah and Enthir, and then come back to take the plans (i dont even know if this will work because my follower will leave after 3 days). I was also thinking if that didn't work, trying it inside my own house. I don't know if it will work any other place besides mercers house.

Is there an easy way to download mods onto my switch for skyrim? I haven't found any helpful guides on this.

So i was wondering if anyone has a solution (preferably without mods, but i am certainly open to everything and anything.)

So, should i give up on the quest, create a new character, or try some other solution?

Right, so i tried my idea of leaving the plans laying around in my house and it worked! I left the plans there, talked to Karliah and Enthir and proceeded to do the rest until it came to actually finding the plans. Once I got into Mercer's house, i stepped right out and went to my house to pick it up. After that the quest went on as normal. Thank you for your reply!!

Some advice for the future...don't force your way into places that the game took great pains to keep you out of

It plays ok, plus you can get some Switch exclusive gear, and you can play it on the bus.
