How to make follower equp armor weapons
I just recently started using skyui and I have a problem. Whenever I try to make a follower equip a weapon or armor I take it instead, is there a way to have them eqiup it, am I missing something? Can someone please help me.

There's no Equip command in their inventory/trade menu like in Fallout 4.

It either has to be the most valuable or most powerful weapon or armor item of its type, unless you have a mod that makes NPCs ignore value and damage ratings.

So, if you want them to use an Ebony bow, give them one, but they can't have a more powerful smithed-up Imperial bow. If you want them to wear leather armor, you have to remove their steel armor from their inventory.

This is where Ultimate Follower Overhaul shines - you can tell them "You could dress better" which gives you the option to take all of their gear and give them exactly the pieces you want them to have. MAK07's Remodeled Armors breaks almost all vanilla armors down into individual components like pauldrons, arm guards, belts, etc, and lets you mix and match, like Dragonplate cuirass with Daedric Pauldrons, or Elven and Glass combos. Granted, they're impractical skimpy armors and only work on female followers.

Still, they do blend with full vanilla pieces mostly, so you can put someone in full-body vanilla Ebony armor and give them Daedric Pauldrons, Gauntlets, and Boots. Or put someone in full Blades armor and give them Dragonscale Pauldrons.

You can use console of course, to change what they are wearing.

Showinventory after clicking on the follower's face will bring up a list of all items they are carrying
with their ID numbers. At the end of a row it will show "worn" for an equipped piece.

Unequipitem (listed ID) 1 ... should unequip that item
equipiten (listed ID) 1 ... should equip item
removeitem or additem can also be used.

Most actual Followers get dialogue to share inventory
... Like Lydia ... "I am born to carry your burdens"
Just ask about trade items

Or if you have an object in your inventory you want to share with an npc
openactorcontainer 1
brings up a dialogue for npcs, just close console to keep using the dialogue

I will add that using all these to change lots of npcs can start to make skyrim less stable as Skyrim needs to remember all changes. So use with care.

While Lydia does indeed "carry your burdens", she is only equipped with a sword initially. The armor she wears is not available in her inventory. However, I found that she will automatically equip herself with the armor and weapons in her inventory if it is better than what she already wears or carries.

If you equip Lydia with a bow and arrows as well as a melee weapon, she will use the appropriate weapon when attacking. Meaning that she will use the bow (if equipped), if her opponent is out of her reach with her melee weapon.

You also do not have access to your follower's inventory if they become your Stewart. You must make them your follower again before you can access their inventory.

If you equip Lydia with two charged staffs, she wants to use them with two hands, by Macedonian, turning into a Terminator

as entertainment, equip she with a daedric set of armor and weapons and with the maximum number of fully charged staffs, for example, fireball, etc. - and turn on the god mode. do not forget the time from time to pick up the staffs and charge them. + heal Lidia. Now you will only collect loot from enemies. :steammocking:

most Huskarl's own two-handed swords and hunting bows + armor set (which are invisible if you did not install unofficial patch) because of the invisibility of armor and weapons, weight loss may decrease in some situations

I would advise against UFO, the mod mentioned above, it's very outdated and largely considered unstable. EFF or iAFT are better.

Dont give Lydia any staff at all. She become one human Serana and revive all. And kill you whit Fireballs.

FLP/EFF/Iaft have all options to give or force them to use the weapon/armor you want them to have.

On the technical level its because the NPCs equipped armor is not actually part of the inventory. Most likely done so the PC cannot steal worn armor from NPCs as that would be really hilarious.
If you fire up Creation Kit you could remove the armor set as "Default Outfit" (for Lydia it should be HousecarlWhiterun with PlayerHousecarlOutfit) and add the items in the actual inventory.
