Why is Morrowind and Oblivion fanbase so damn toxic?
I mean really, every oblivion video, every oblivion forum thread, every morrowind and oblivion everything is filled with pure Skyrim hate, for no reason at all

Trashtalking Skyrim because "Oblivion is 10000x better" is absolute nonsense, why not just argue like a human? But yeah then again we're on the internet.

I hate people.

Oh Beth seems to Generate that generally, just look how many pepole Hate Fallout 4 because they Compair it with 3 and New Vegas.

Lot of pepole these days lost the Ability to look at a Game itself, today its compaired to everything else thats even radom close to the Game.

And there are a lot of pepole loving a Game and hate it to see if a game that comes after it, is more successfull then the game they Love --> Instant hate for that game no matter if its decent :)

Not only that, but there are also online reviewers whose words are taken as gospel by MANY people. If those reviewers hate a game, then so will their fans, often without actually playing said game and giving it a chance. This is not unique to Bethesda games, either. A lot of long-standing game franchises and companies get the treatment. Sometimes it's justified, but sometimes it's not.

Part of the issue is that Skyrim is "simplified" compared to Oblivion, which in turn was "simplified" compared to Morrowind and complaining about "dumbing down" is a legitimate complaint even if it does get overblown.

Yea that hate is in many games sadly. People needs to start to think for them self.

Because if someone only cares about getting lots of messages in their thread, then creating controversy is the easiest way.

For those who can only do "easy" things... ;-)

(Also, "Please don't feed the Trolls." 8-) )

because god forbid bethesda steamlines a broken game mechanic from the previous games.

How was having the ability to design and create your own custom spells (admittedly with a DLC) "broken"?

How was being able to customize your character's skills broken?

Heck ... if we really want to talk about "broken" things; would you be happy if enchanting your own gear was removed in the next TES?

A reasonable question. And I would consider that a loss. I assume there were a few other things that were broken, since every one of the games seems to have some things broken... 8-)

That's my point; simply painting people who wish each TES game didn't get "streamlined"; or "dumbed down" as "haters" or trolls is wrong because although some of the complaints are over blown; there are valid complaints.

This seems like the most logical answer to my question. Thanks for the insight.

Morrowind I can understand because it had a unique look and scenery, but Oblivion looks and plays like a pre-alpha of Skyrim.

TES(4) has alot of issues of its own; but at least it had a better magic system (with the DLC) and character creation that wasn't pure cosmetics.

Now don't get me wrong; I still play Skyrim and haven't touched Oblivion in forever, but those things do bother me; especially the magic bit as I can't find a mod that changes it.

Have you ever considered that they intentionally made things a bit different to set them apart from one another?

They arn't just making the same game over and over.

Not really considering that the "differences" results in stripping away options. Different but deep is one thing ... different and shallow is quite another and sadly that is the trend.
