I just got infected by a vampire. What will happen?
So I just went into Broken Fang Cave, and I apparently got Sanguinare Vampiris. After reading the wiki on this, messages are supposed to start appearing towards the 3 day mark, but I got "You feel a strange thirst as the sun sets." as soon as I exited the cave. I did foolishly fire arrows at the vampire at point blank, while he was stealing my health and slashing away at me. Had to fill my health up at least 3 times before Lydia killed it.

So I'm wondering, what EXACTLY is going to happen? Obviously I'll turn into a vampire, but what does that mean in the long term? I probably won't turn into a vampire lord (don't even have Dawnguard). So what will happen?

I really don't know how else to phrase it. I just wanna know what will happen. Is it permanent once the 3 days pass, and what does that mean for me? Will there just be permanent debuffs and/or buffs in the "Active Effects"? Will I go into a killing spree, or will there be a dead body somewhere, every time I wake up?

I currently have the game paused until I get some insight.

I read a wiki page on Vampirism, and from what I understand, it seems quite dumb and game breaking. Imagine strolling into a hold to do one of the main quests, and the quest giver either runs away or attacks you. I guess it's pretty much the same as randomly deciding to attack jarls or any NPC. It's kinda a point of no return. You have your fun, and then you need to go back to a previous save. But does the wiki page include everything that happens when you're infected?

Okay, I think you're overthinking it.

What will happen is, every day you don't feed, you'll get hungrier - the hungrier you get, the more powerful you'll get, but your vulnerabilities will increase as well. At Stage 4 hunger, NPCs will attack you, unless you have Dawnguard or a mod installed.

If you feed, which is *non-lethal* to an NPC (unless you do it twice in one night, I believe), you'll be taken back to Stage 1, which will reduce your powers, but also make you friendlier to NPCs.

There is a quest that'll let you cure your vampirism if you complete it, and you'll start hearing rumors about the NPC you need to talk to (which will activate the quest) after you become a vampire.

You can never overthink a life changing event like becoming a vampire. ;)
Also thanks for the info.

It sounds like you don't actually WANT to be a vampire, so go to any shrine(my favorite is the Talos shrine in Whiterun) use it to cure yourself from the disease, or drink disease cure potion(sold by all alchmists of skyrim). Take care to do this before the 3 days pass or you'll be stuck with Vamprism permanently. Falion in Morthal can cure vamprism AFTER 3 days but it involvs a long quest, so do it before the 3 days pass.

Or you actually want to be a vampire, then nvm my post. Dawnguard dlc makes the stage 4 hostillty thing go away so buy it to make vamprism easier.

Nothing in Skyrim is "life changing".

I don't know about that. I once saw a Companion getting out of bed, and they were stuck in the laying down state. It was pretty eye and mind opening. I walked out that mead hall a new man.

I also heard that Dawnguard makes vampires be able to just run into cities (like Whiterun) and murder people. So I'm definitely never going to get it either.

After getting that disease, you have three days to take a Potion of Cure Disease or receive a blessing from a shrine to cure it before you become a vampire. Vampires are in the vanilla game, but Dawnguard expands them and also adds vampire attacks on cities. Speaking of which,

This mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23906) makes ordinary NPCs run inside during dragon and vampire attacks, while not affecting NPCs such as city guards.

If you complete the Dawnguard quests quick enough, that won't happen I believe. I have it it really isn't that bad. Just go in and slay the vampires (or join up with them) and they should stop doing that.

The vampire attacks are random, just like dragon attacks. I'd actually prefer it if they happened more frequently, but I could only find mods to get rid of them, unfortunately.

Oh, so if you defeat the vampires in DG they will still do that? Because I've defeated them before and don't remember anymore attacks on the cities. I might've been mistaken. I do know though that they don't start doing this until you are level 12.

The vampire attacks start after beginning the DLC's main quest, which can happen by overhearing a guard talk about vampire hunters, and stop after finishing Dawnguard's main quest, regardless of who you sided with.

Yeah, that was what I was saying. lol

So far, I haven't had a guard say anything. I do think they say it once you reach a certain level. It may not be 12 but that's what I remember from a while back. Right now my character is level 9 and that hasn't happened yet.

As it's already been said, you have a three-day window to get this taken care of, and it's really easy to do. To cure Sanguinare Vampiris, you just need to visit a shrine to any of the Divines (really, ANY of them will work, and each city has at least one), or drink a Cure Disease potion (which you can buy in the alchemist/apothecary shops). Whichever choice you make, it needs to be done within three days of getting the disease. Afterwards, it's too late; you'll either need to Morthal and talk to Falion, or join the Companions and start their questline (lycanthropy and being a vampire are mutually exclusive).
