Is There a Way to Increase Character Running Speed?
I recently started playing Oblivion again, remembering all the fun I had jumping around and running like crazy with Acrobatics and Athletics. Speed was an amazing attribute which allowed me to zoom across the landscape rather than moving at a snail's pace.

While the changes in Skyrim do make it unique and a bit more grounded (Especially since I cannot space jump anymore, heh), I am hoping that there might be a way to edit the Dragonborn's run speed so that I do not feel ridiculously slow while making my way through the Province... I have been trying to avoid Fast Travel in Oblivion, but with Skyrim it could get exhausting with the long hikes involved.

Anyway, please let me know if there is a way to increase the Dragonborn's running speed. If there is a way to increase jump height, that would also be appreciated. I can make adjustments using the Creation Kit as well, if that is a necessary component.

Thank you for any assistance

That's incorrect. As long as you're not at or over your carrying capacity, how much stuff you have in your inventory does not have any effect on your movement.

There's a console command: player.setav speedmult <x>

<x> is a percentage value, so if you put 150, then you move at 150% of your normal speed, aka, 50% faster than normal.

According to the wiki[en.uesp.net], you can also change your jump height with:
setgs fJumpHeightMin <x>

You'll probably just kill yourself if you set it too high though. Running too fast does also not work well with skyrim, you'll just die all the time from falling.

There are several mods for this enchantment-type on the Workshop, and Nexus

Of course the first thing is to remove more items from your inventory so that you are lighter, as weight has a bearing on how fast you can travel.

I agree in Oblivion I loved getting my speed high enough to try to keep up with M'aiq the Liar as he sped across Tamrial. Doing a trip from Anvil on the gold coast to Leyawiin in record time.

In Morrowind the incredible Boots of Blinding speed were amazing with 200+ Speed, but had blindness of 100% Which could be negated with gear and race bonus. But gave a black screen if anyone was silly enough to use them without taking precautions

In Skyrim the fastest travel is as a werewolf .... where you can sprint until stamina is nearly exhausted then merely keep running and in ~10 seconds stamina will be replenished and you can sprint again. Mind you to keep that up you do need to kill animals / bandits and feed on them to build up the werewolf transformation time.

Outside of console commands or mods, your only real choice is werewolf form. Horses move slightly faster than the player, but only just so. Of course, you can just fast travel everywhere to reduce the time it takes for you to get between places. As someone who normally prefers to just walk everywhere, I can assure you that fast travel is FAR faster than walking everywhere. I really hate that one quest you get early on in the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod, which requires you to do a full round trip between Solitude and Riften. Now THAT'S a long-ass walk. And yes, even then I refuse to fast travel, though mainly because I play with survival mods installed (I did fast-travel once with my survival mods installed, I died as soon as I arrived). And yes, I hate that one part in the Undeath mod that FORCES you to fast-travel to progress. And I didn't even figure out that I had to until I hit a barrier trying to climb up a mountain to get to where I needed to go. Turns out, you can't walk to that map marker, you HAVE to fast-travel to it, and to a location in the freaking arctic no less.

Thank you for the link. While I would prefer to make my own edits or use console, I think that the mod will be very useful for others trying to accomplish the same thing

Much appreciated. I did not know weight was a factor in overall speed, which could be useful. Indeed, running at high speeds in Oblivion was an amazing experience.

Thank you for the response and extra information. I tend to agree with the "Walk Everywhere" mentality and kind of hope to take in the environment of Skyrim rather than teleporting from place to place. You mentioned Console Commands, are there any which might be specific to Player Character Speed?

It can be edited by using xEdit, as well (which is how walking speed was adjusted in the mod Walk Faster, for example).

I loved the increase in jumping from acrobatics in Oblivion, the increase in speed from athletics was ok, but the ability to actually reach those ledges (some of which I later learnt weren't supposed to be reachable) was amazing.

There are mods that improve speed and jumping.
You can also use console commands, but I'm wary of these causing issues later on.
And as smr says you can edit it using xedit (or is it TESedit), but he knows more about that than I.
Hit sprint key :P

Thank you very much. That should help me move around a bit better and trek through the vast space of Skyrim without having to resort to too much Fast Travel or "coc" commands.
