Skyrim Unbound and Dragonborn DLC
I'm assuming I can't play the DLC if I'm not the Dragonborn? I know the main questline for Skyrim is removed, but does it also remove the questline for the DLC?

Not entirely sure.

But Dragonborn quest line requires you to learn and use some specific shouts, which if you haven't started the mainquest is impossible.

Well, i believe you can wallglitch into miraaks temple, never done it but i wonder what would happen if you just did that before becoming the dragonborn.

Whether you can or not, is irrelevant, as you would probably break the game - there is a reason why areas are closed off until you have met requirements, as certain triggers need to be activated in order for proper dialogues/spawns/quests to work. Bypassing the necessary triggers breaks the game.

You can always change the settings in Skyrim Unbound. I use SU and most of the time I will start as a non-Dragonborn and disable the appearing of dragons. If I'm done exploring, I change the settings to Dragonborn and enable dragons. On the first kill of a dragon, you will be summoned by the Greybeards.

I partly disagree with smr1957. Various questlocked areas can be visited without breaking the game, such as Kilkreath Ruins, Ustengrav and Orphan Rock. If you have worked your way throught Kilkreath Ruins without bringing the beacon to the statue of Meridia, Dawnbreak will still be the reward and you will be lifted out of the ruins, receive thanks from Meridia and be nicely put on the ground in front of the statue, once you have killed Malkoran.

The same goes for Orphan Rock. Kill the hagraven, retrieve Nettlebane and you will be directed to Danica Pure-Spring.

Ustengrav is slightly different. If you would be able to enter Ustengrav before starting the related quest, and get deeper into Ustengrav Depths, you would not find the horn or Delphine's note, but you would be able to fight your way through the ruins and learn a word of power.

Altbert, re quest locked areas, true, some can: there are even mods that allow it, but I usually state it as I did because for those without the experience and knowledge, it is all too easy to bork the game, while those with the experience and knowledge, don't need to be told. Basically, its a case of better safe than sorry.

How do you get into Kilkreath Ruins without giving the beacon to Meridia? In my game the entrance is blocked. Is there a mod to let you in?

As stated, some places can be accessed with a mod (don't remember the name off-hand), but whether that place is one of them, I couldn't say. But, considering the potential consequences, it is NOT recommended to access blocked areas without the appropriate mod. Why risk borking your game? Those who wish to are free to do so, but really, why? Based upon all my knowledge and experience, I cannot and will not recommend it, and strongly discourage it. Anyone who does so does it at their own risk, and no support will be given.

(The mod that allows access to some blocked areas edits records to ensure that nothing breaks, and access is only given to allow one to reach otherwise unattainable word walls, with the rest of the area remaining blocked to avoid breaking quests and the game. As far as I know, that particular mod is safe to use)

EDIT - It is possible that I am thinking of this mod:
Word Walls Relocated - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/79111/?

It does not grant access to blocked areas, but rather moves the word walls to accessible locations.

The reason I asked is because Albert said he could visit Kilkreath ruins without breaking the quest. He stated he could work his way thru Kilkreath ruins without bringing the beacon to Meridia. Which is certainly not possible in my game.

The mod you put a link to seems to me to be about the only way to access those world walls in quest locked areas without doing the quests.

I think Albert is talking about a different game than mine; actually I do not think he knows what he is talking about.

No, I'm not talking about a different game. I'm talking about Skyrim: OldRim, Skyrim LE and Skyrim SE. After several playthroughs and lots of testing my mods, I wanted to play the game without starting and completing any of the major questlines, but many locations were blocked by questlocks. Little over a year a go, I started to create a mod that removes questlocks. First attempts were a complete disaster, but I found several locations where a questlock was not necessary to say at the least. About half a year ago I started again, very carefully, trying to avoid breaking quests. However, the devs arranged questlocks in many different ways. Easiest were Kilkreath Ruins, Orphan Rock and Ustengrav. Blocking is taken care off by enabling or disabling a marker, and the related quests do not check if you have started the quest in the way the devs have ment. That is quite different with quests related to Saarthal, Dustman's Cairn, Snow Veil Sanctum, Irkngthand and some others.
