Follower Lost Inventory!
I had a Dark Brotherhood Initiate as my follower, and I gave her my Nightingale bow and the Ancient Dark Brotherhood armour as well as other high-end equipment. She was dismissed for a quest, and when I went back to get her all of her equipment is not in her inventory! I have no idea what to do because most of her stuff was quest items that I can't get back.

The inventories of these followers may reset, causing items they are carrying to be permanently lost.

This bug is fixed by version 3.0.10 of the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.

EDIT: Reload a save from before you dismissed them, cause the patch won't bring back the missing things.

Agree with voehringer_nitron reload a previous save and take stuff from your follower before dismissing them.
That's why we do loads of saves so that we can go back.
Don't give followers unique items, unless you are happy for them to get lost.
Even if their inventory doesn't reset, there is a large possibility that you will forget which follower you gave it to.

If a manual save was a long time ago, i suggest to just use the console commands, i mean it's not really cheating if you use it to fix stuff, but i guess that is a personal thing.

Problem is using the console to add unique items can create bugs, it's not a certainty, but it's a definite risk.

Oh c'mon no it doesn't, what possible thing could it do, it's not like the original will be canceled or something. You just add an item without doing anything quest related and the item is not bound to anything. If you add quest items, yes that might screw it up, but a rando unique item who's quest is long finished will have the same risk as dropping that item to the floor and picking it up again.... literally nothing will happen.

I had no idea that happened with Dark Brotherhood Initiates, that kind of sucks. It's too late to go back to a previous save because I did a lot between dismissing her and getting her again, so I'll probably end up using commands to get the equipment back. Thanks for the help guys! 👌

I recently had a follower (serana) lose a bunch of stuff I gave her, and it wasn't that long before she lost it either. I dropped a bunch of dwarven ingots and bows I had made on the ground and told her to pick them up (because they were too much for her to carry). I went into town to buy more iron ingots and sell off the bows, only to find that she now only had 1 of each in her inventory. I've never had a follower do that before, and this was hardly the first I had leveled my smithing with dwarven ingots (from nchuendzel). Though serana's given me no end of problems. She's BY FAR the worst follower in the entire game. I've seriously wished she wasn't essential more than once in the past she's so infuriating to play with. And to make matters worse, I had to go through the entirity of nchuendzel again to recover my dwarven metal. As for serana, I had more than enough of her and just settled for using console commands to expand my carry weight. Its not like I couldn't carry all that stuff around without console commands anyway. Doing that just saved me having to command my follower to pick up items, and having to go through dialogue options to get them back. Oh, and in the case of Serana, I think I'll just avoid doing the dawnguard questline ever again, because I"m so sick of having to deal with serana. In fact, I may start the questline later just so I can use my heartbreaker mod on her. And let's be honest, its not like the dawnguard questline gives you items that are actually useful anyway. The only item I ever seriously used was auriel's bow, and even then I only use it for blotting out the sun. And right now my vampire character is so op I hardly even notice the penalties from being in the sun anyway (and I'm always at level 4 vampirism too btw).

ok, if the related quests are done, then the unique item probably won't do anything.... Provided it isn't something like a Daedric artifact
