Someone with big brain [Havok] tweaks for Skyrim LE
So in case it hasn't bothered anyone, have you noticed your HDT hair jitter when idle?
Well a quick experiment I never thought of, I locked my fps at 30 when i was getting around 50 and suddenly the jitter was completely gone

Well i got curious and tried looking up stuff about this, it was always said that skyrim's physics engine was tied to 60fps, which is probably fine for vanilla but when it comes to HDT how come it calms everything down to run at 30fps instead

Next question that arised from me but seemed to have little explanation on was this:

[HAVOK]
fMaxTime=0.0333 is for 30fps, may help performance on slow computers
fMaxTime=0.0166 is for 60fps
fMaxTime=0.0133 is for 75fps
fMaxTime=0.0111 is for 90fps
fMaxTime=0.0083 is for 120fps
fMaxTime=0.0069 is for 144fps
fMaxTime=0.0042 is for 240fps

I understand that running some of these tweaks could fix physic bugs at high fps

but assuming that the default for skyrim is fMaxTime 0.0166

how come HDT spas stops when i run the game at 30fps and would there be a benefit from running it at 0.0333

(Im mostly interested in HDT stability as my modded skyrim can generally get fps from 25 in cities to 50 outdoors)

more or less an in depth explanation of what these tweaks exactly do and what could be the benefit of running them for a non 60fps+ setup

P.s. it also might have come to my attention that these tweaks haven't been extensively tested

Many claim they work, but do not say how many hours they tested it for (if tested at all) or provide documentation other than the original posts that were made in Reddit over 2 years ago. Also, while those edits may fix the visual, there is nothing to indicate that they fix what is under the hood, as EVERYTHING in the game is tied to FPS - quests, AI packages and schedules, etc.

Best policy if you just want to play with no potential risk of breaking the game, is to cap FPS at 6O or some lower number. Remember, the Havoc engine use by the game was originally designed for console and 30 FPS - it can go to 60 without problems, but over that, things will break.

Also, there have been discussions in the forum regarding that topic, and you should be able to find some by a search.

I understand all that... and i wont ever run the game over 60 fps, the real question is if i start to run the game at 30fps should I change that Havok ini line for 30fps

No - leave it as is. Also, it is usually not a good policy to start changing .ini settings, unless it is a documented adjustment or fix, or if you are willing to accept the risk.

i mean way before i messed around with the [script] settings to ever so slightly get a boost
and i was able to without suffering any sort of catastrophic failure

i figured it would be better to leave alone like the thread tweaks and script tweaks

but this one is kinda a new one

more or less an in depth explanation of what these tweaks exactly do and what could be the benefit of running them for a non 60fps+ setup

first off, the HDT plugin still uses the havok system ( "skyrim's physics engine"). the only use that plugin has is to offer mods the havok system in ways it was not planned by bethesda, boobs, hair, etc.

secondly, I never ever saw jitter in any of my HDT mods nor is jitter in physic mods that common, so it cant be a widespread problem.

thirdly, in case of hair mods there is also an ENB setting which can cause problems with jitter

fourthly, these settings above align the havok engine with your FPS. setting the above settings to 30 FPS or 0.033.. can help on low system with a bit more stable physic engine* but I would not recommend it if you always ping pong in the range of 30-50 FPS.

* what a lot of people dont know is that the sweetspot for the physics engine is at the number it tuned to, so in skyrims example 60 FPS. if you go too far above this set limit the physic engine will freak out, if you fall too far below that limit the physics will become sluggish.

In the end, if you have a problem with a specific mod, like the hair's for example read up on the mod page if other people had similar problems.

Well I've tried searching for the problem but I found little to no help anywhere. So i just assumed it was just a thing that happened. If so I still don't know what could be doing it, hair only starts to jitter when touching my body (Im using COSIO) Boobs and butts don't jitter. And its always been a problem for me and skyrim.

Im aware HDT uses skyrims havok, just expands on it.

Equip a hairstyle thats particularly longer and just stand still (same effect with wigs) even my friend has the same issue with this jitter and spas. (Yes i downloaded the optional file in KS hairdos)

p.s. keep in mind its the hair jitter is minamal nothing extreme like spasing out into space

think of the jitter like your washing machine or dryer running
