Blood on the ice quest glitch

I'm trying to do the quest in windhelm where you solve a murder. I talked to Viola and she glitches inside Hjerim rendering the quest unfinishable. Any way around this? I've tried loading saves, waiting, dropping the beware the butcher poster in front of her, and that's it.
I haven't tried restarting the game.

"Glitches" how? What exactly is she doing, and what did she last do before that?

I talked to her. She says "lets go investigate Hjerim". She slowly walks to Hjerim and enters. Fairly normal. When I walk in, a line of subtitles briefly appears, but she doesn't say any of them. I'm pretty sure this line of subtitles is what she is supposed to say. Afterwards, she acts like how you'd see her on the street. She basically forgets that she's a part of the quest and refuses to move on her own. If I go outside and wait, she appears near the wardrobe that hides the killers' secret room. She doesn't move after that, or say anything relevant to the quest.
Some background stuff that may or may not have contributed: I completed the civil war (empire), I've earned the title of Thane in Windhelm, I bought Hjerim to enter.

Here is where the glitch start, you're not supposed to be able to buy Hjerim before ending Blood on Ice.
I don't know how to fix this, but you can try to advance the quest through console command, or reload a save before you bought Hjerim.

Also you don't need to talk to her if you can pick the lock I think. All you need out of there is the amulet and journal if I remember correctly.

Is that so? Strange. The wiki clearly states I can buy the property before the quest starts, as the prerequesite for buying it is supposedly completing the civil war questline.

In the hidden room is a journel, which is what Viola wanted you to find - she shouldn't even go to Hjerm if you grab it before talking to her. If you have that, then odds are you're finished with her and can move on.

Try talking to Calixto, and sell him the amulet if you haven't already, then go bug Wuunferth.

You're not supposed to be able to buy the furnishings for it. Buying the place itself isn't a bug.

You're not supposed to be able to buy the furnishings for it. Buying the place itself isn't a bug.

I'm not using any mods at all. I don't know how to mod but that's a story for another day.
I sold the amulet to calixto before talking to viola. I guess I did forget about Butcher Journal #2 so I'll try that another time bc I also tried talking to wuunferth and the dialogue option hadn't shown up.
