dragon didn't give me his soul
i just went back to a word wall i ignored because the elder dragon there was too strong, and when i killed it he didn't give me his soul. i've been waiting for him to give me the soul for 5 minutes and nothing is happening (eldersblood peak is the location)

Do you already have Disarm x 3? If not reload a save and try again.

Nope, that was the second word of disarm. Are there any dragons that wander around and dont give souls? Because I found a frost dragon right below the word wall mountain and he gave me a soul.

This happens to me all the time with random dragon encounters. It usually happens to me if I'm considerable distance from the Dragon when it dies. I don't sweat ot much because there is always enough Dragons to unlock your shouts. If this happens with every Dragon you encounter, I would start worrying.

do you kill them from a distance or something? I always melee them to death, but Im only level 21 right now, Ive fought and slain 5 so far, and they have all given me a soul. so sounds like ranged isnt a good idea against dragons? (at least for the killing blow)

I don't really think so. At least with me it doesn't mater the distance I kill the dragon, I always get his soul (save for those on the Miraak quest, but that is because of the quest). In fact, sometimes I kill the dragon and start running away from it and still get his soul.

It dont matter if you kill from distance or in close combat.

OP do you have mods installed, if you have all dlc:s do you have Usleep.
It is on common issue that you dont get dragonsouls after one dragon kill.

If you do have mods installed, have you sorted them whit LOOT?
Lifeisagame Jan 3, 2018 @ 8:50am
Usualy that happens if you already killed that Dragon on the Stone wall, maybe you killed him once you was near there - remember most of them Fly around too.

And you only need to get close enoth to start the Soul draining, when its started you can fast travel to the other side of Skyrim and its skill soaks the Soul (including the grafical effect)

I have 3 mods:
Unread books glow
Skyui
Havel the rock

Dont think any of them are the problem

I was there 4-5 ingame days ago andi dont think dragons respawn that fast. Also I looted him and didnt absorb the soul

Then you should add Usleep, SkyUi needs SKSE so have you made one skse.ini file?
Havel the rock is that one follower?
Unread books glow do I have my self. Most needed mod. Dont affect any of your issues.

The answer is obvious. The dragon made Jesus his Lord and Savior. ;)

Yes I did. Havel the rock just adds an enemy/boss at a location with his armor, shield and weapon from dark souls

OP, I see a lot of misinformation being regurgitated here by people who mean well, but have no clue.

You are experiencing a well known bug. Bethesda claimed to have fixed it back in 2012, but they haven't ever fixed a bug in any TES game, ever. Bugs from Morrowind are still present in Skyrim. It happens when a company uses interns who cut and paste blcks of code from previous engine builds.
AngelBird Jan 3, 2018 @ 8:40pm
Fast travel away and then go right back, it should work then.
