Follower Faendal missing

I was somehwere up in the northwest side of the map crossing on peaks of mountains wheni lost him. This was a few in game days, and 1 real time day ago. I assumed he went a different route. So i waited 24 hours and he didnt appear. Then i waited anohter 24 hours and nothing. So i first went back to my house in whiterun to see if he was there. He wasnt. Then i went back to riverwood to see if he was there, and he wasnt. If i try to get another follower, they say i already have one. But Faendal is just gone. How can i find him or how can i get a new follower?

At this point it is now like a week or so in game days, and i cant get any other follower with other quests because the game thinks i already have one when i dont.

Is there a way to hack the save file to put him in a new place or something like this?

-Go to a save where he was still with you
- Open up your console and click on him once, exit console.
- Go back to latest save, once loaded, open console and type "moveto player"
