can't enchant shields with resist magic. Help pls
So everywhere I have looked says that resist magic enchantments can be placed on shields, but my game will only allow me to use elemetal resistance enchantments. I find shields with the enchantment, but can't place my own. This is the regular enchantment not the shield of solitude one. My mods are not at issue, I already checked, and I'm using the original legendary addition with the unnofficial patch. Anyone know a fix?

Have you dissenchanted a shield with that effect? You can only use a effect on an item if you got the enchantment from that item type.

Not true, once you know an enchantment effect you can use it on any item which can be enchanted with that effect.

Unfortunately, OP, I can't think of anything that will help, have you tried it with different shields in your inventory (in case there's one specific shield which has bugged out)? I'm guessing you've got an un-enchanted shield in your inventory (obv can't put an enchantment on an already enchanted item - just mentioning that on the off chance you didn't realise it, though it sounds like you're probably past that point) and when you select a soul gem and the Resist Magic effect the shield(s) just isn't showing up as an option to enchant? What type of shield are you using, and does it allow you to place other enchantments on the shield, just not RM?

(Just trying to be thorough in case someone else comes along and knows a fix.)

Not true - if another type of item can also have that effect put on it, it doesn't matter where you learned the enchantment or what the item was that it was that the enchantment originally was on. (e.g. - if you learned resist magic off of a ring, you could still use it for any other item that is able to be enchanted by that effect. See following for a full listing of items and what enchantments may be placed on them: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Enchanting_Effects )

My morning for being ninja'd! Nice going gnewna! And good morning!

Oh sorry for the misinformation, I have had a mod that alters enchants so I thought thats how it originally was.

That's the problem when you mod - you get so use to what the mods do, you forget what vanilla Skyrim is like!

At any rate, if it's the enchantment in particular you're after...

The Shield of Solutide from "The wolf Queen Awakened" can be disenchanted for a "better" version of Resist magic, which at lv100 enchanting yields 25% instead of 20% and can stack with normal resist magic for a total of 45% magic resistance.

Normal magic resistance is probably easiest to find as an enchanted piece of jewelry either store-sold or as random loot in dungeons at middling + levels.

yes, I just hate waiting for the solutude quest. This has been going on since I got the game for all shields, I actually just assumed that resist magic wasn't on the shield list.
