Having Problems Installing SMIM (Error Before Installation Complete) !PLEASE HELP!
Hello, before you ask yes I have researched about this problem and all I can find are theorys, ifs, buts and not a solid answer which is why ive come here as a last resort in hope that someone with the knowledge of a fix will come across my thread.

Now for the Problem,

Recently for Christmas I got myself an MSi Geforce GTX 1070 Gaming X and it works wonders! so I decided to revisit skyrim as previously I had a graphics card that couldn't handle intense mods that improve the graphics of Skyrim. I found a page on the Skyrim Nexus that gives you a list of over 200 mods to improve the graphics of skyrim and a list in the order they should be installed in so enough of that heres the link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76373/?
Anyway I followed all the steps in detail I did EVERYTHING it told me to do (I got TES5Edit and cleaned dirty files, I got LOOT, and many mods it recommended to me and I'm quite familiar with modding so I dont mean to be rude but spare me the newbie information) but when I got to a mod called Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) I was installing the correct version through Nexus Mod Manager and it gave me the options form on which game to pick and which quality to pick so I checked the box that stated "Original Skyrim 2011 Everything WITH Dragonborn DLC" and then I clicked finish and it continued installing but when it got to 100% it states that an error in the installation occured.

This is exactly what it says copied to clipboard:

Static Mesh Improvement Mod // A problem occurred during install:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
The mod was not installed. // Install //

And I've tried reinstalling it several times deleting it entirely and redownloading it then installing it Ive also tried doing a custom install for it by choosing my own options and I've tried overwriting files it tells me to overwrite when installing it AND I've tried not overwriting the files too in another install and nothing works every time there is this error.

I'm sorry for going in that much detail but frankly its starting to annoy me as you probably know that SMIM is a must have mod after looking at those Vanilla ropes I can't help to notice how bad they look. Thanks in advance! ~ KIMBOF1

Postscript (P.S) Sorry for my punctuation and Grammar if it doesn't make sense it is because I'm still in High School! :) Thanks for helping!

Is SMIM the first mod effecting graphics that you are installing for this current setup?

I've gotten that same message at times - not for SIMM but for other very large downloads on Nexus. I do not know if this will apply in your case, but I would (if retrying the Download With Manager did not work) Manually download the file, and then move the file to NMM using the Add File button in the upper left of NMM (the green plus sign). In my case, this has always worked (also, not running any other programs while the manager is installing the mod undoubtedly also helped). Don't know If this will work for you; by the time you read this, I'm sure others will have popped in with some help. Good luck!

Thanks guys! No it isn't the first mod I've installed for this setup theres a few before like the basic mods that you need (SkyUI, unofficial patches) and then theres the first few mods in that list I sent the link to until it gets to SMIM.

also the only problem I have with th manual download is that when installing SMIM through the manager you get an options form asking you which game it's for (2011 Skyrim or 2016 Skyrim) and if I install it manually I cannot choose this so I fear that it will mess up my game (I haven't tried yet so there may be different archives for each choice) Thanks again! :)

Great! Sometimes a manual download on very large files is what's needed. Glad it worked!
