Resurrecting Barbas?
A while back (like 12 levels ago) I started the Daedra's Best Friend quest. After getting the axe I decided to keep Barbas around for a while. Somewhere along the line he disappeared and I assumed he'd just gotten lost and was waiting for me at Clavicus' shrine so I went about my game for a while. But when I went there, he was apparently dead. I would rather have the mask than the axe and I feel bad for killing him when I was supposed to reunite them. I've tried using the resetquest and setstage commands, along with enable and resurrect for his character but nothing seems to be working. If I go back to the save before speaking to Clavicus and completing the quest, is there a way I can resurrect Barbas and complete the quest by reuniting them to get the mask? Thanks!

Barbas' death script has been run by the game. I doubt you can do anything about that. Besides, of course, loading a previous save.

As Docsprock said - except a little more empahtically - you WILL break your game. Just load a previous save, or forget all about completing that quest (remember, there are really no mandatory quests in Skyrim - you can pretty much do what you want, or not).

If the items are the issue, then player.additem can give you the Mask of Clavicus Vile, you just need the itemid (google it).

Then you can have the mask and the axe.

Add item is probably one of the safest commands, and it is as alexander_dougherty said - you just don't get achievements for items added by console (though, for me, I don't particulary concern myself with achievements, anyway).

True, you lost the chance to have the mask, but the good news is, Barbas isn't truely dead. Clavicus says that he'll absorb Barbas' energy and it will take about 100 years for Barbas to reform himself. Soooo Elder Scrolls 6, THE REVENGE OF BARBAS

He probably died a loooong time ago, so oh well. I mostly just felt bad about killing him, lol. thanks though!

I wonder if you set him to respawn using the CK if he can respawn after you kill him. Although he might become disabled by the quest after killing him.
