"Force Dismiss" for Extensible Follower Framework
There's already a "Force Recruit" option that, on its own, solves many mod bugs/conflicts concerning followers. Many people have problems with dismissing them for any number of reasons. Force Recruit combined with a Force Dismiss would be the panacea for all follower-related mods.

How do you do that? I'm still new to modding.

Go into the mod menu, select EFF and it should be under setting. Keep in mind that all your followers will be dismissed.

Didn't work. I used the console codes "set playerfollowercount to 0", "set 3dnpcfollowercount to 0", and "setstage FollowerExtension 500". Didn't work. Clicked on the follower in console then typed 'disable' then 'enable'. Didn't work. Clicked on the follower in console then typed 'kill' then 'resurrect'. Didn't work. Eventually I set the follower (Hjoromir) to 'default' from 'essential' importance then killed him normally and used 'resurrect' again. Worked.

Are you using the latest version of EFF?
