are two handed weapons worthless?
they dont deal that much damage when upgraded compared to one handed, they are also slow and it takes up both hands.

what? Do you even stats bro?
All two handed weapons deal more damage than 1 handed weapons. The only exception is dual wielded weapons.
For example, I have both two handed and one handed skills upgraded about the same amount. My best one handed swords, the scimitars, deal 22 damage each, and I typically dual wield them.
In contrast, my best two handed sword, which I just got on a mission, deals 30 damage.
So yes, when I dual wield my scimitars I am doing more damage (44) but, keep in mind, dual wielding removes any ability to block. You can still block with two handed weapons.
Essentially it comes down to your in the moment needs. Do you need consistent damage on low health targets? Or do you want big damage on high health targets and still have the ability to block? It's really your call but two handed weapons are far from worthless. Currently my favorite weapon in the game tbh.

what about shield? still faster and more defense capabilities. the damage isnt that far off either I have also heard that it deals more damage overall compared to two hand

It's certainly viable, more damage is more damage. Although I usually use a one-handed weapon and save my other arm for some utility, like a spell or a shield.

One handed is superior to 2 handed since you can block, but you do less damage.
And you cant block that good whit 2 handed.
The only thing that 2 handed are is that you have higher power attack and higher hit points.
But it is slow.

I am on my 2nd playthrough with Chrysomere. Puts paid to the account of most Dragons and other threats. Upgradable too.

It's all a matter of comfort.. two handed weapons will dominate if you're Farley far and keep your distance from the opponent. But the thing is, I personally believe one handed weapons are much better. I got the nightingale blade up to 66 damage including the 25 health absorb and stamina drain. Now, the best one handed weapon is chillrend.

One reason, I used 1 blacksmith potion that made blacksmithing 25% better and used a pare of gauntlets and an amulet to make blacksmithing better, the amulet was a 15% better blacksmithing and the gauntlets was 30%, I also had one handed weapons skill at 68 and the general first perk on it at 4. So, the weapon was around 200% better than it should be if I had no perk points and overall the weapon did 95 damage with a bonus 25 frost damage and a chance to paralyse the target, HOWEVER!! The only bad thing about chillrend is, the charge runs out SUPER quickly. So moving onto two handed weapons, I had the dragon bone great sword, 5 perk points in the first two handed perk and the same potion and armour enchantments as I did the one handed. I could do 77 damage with the great sword, NO enchantments on it either. So quite frankly, I just feel one handed weapons are MUCH better. Plus, greatswords swing incredibly slow, where as.. one handed weapons swing much faster and THUS doing a ton of more damage, especially if you dual wield.

Just a reminder, the weapons here were fully maxed out with the grinder to legendary. But the great sword can be useful, just keep your distance from your enemy and make sure you're JUST close enough to hit the enemy, and hope. if the enemy doesn't have a great sword you're fine and dandy. Oh and I advice if you're going for two handed, get the stealth skill so you can dodge your enemies and roll around them :P

But overall, everyone had different opinions on what weapons to use, it's all your choice in the end, and comfort comes a big deal with it :D

Oh and if you're going for either, I recommend light armour :P, more flexibility and you can get roughly the same stats in Armour points. Say if you have dark brotherhood armour, go get the ancient dark brotherhood armour and upgrade it, max I got was 125 armour points all together, also make sure to spec into light armour perks if you're going that route.

A lot more benefits on light armour rather than heavy.. stealth capabilities, a LOT less stamina drain AND you can move around easily and faster.

Two handed is all I use and have had no problem. I went for the the special Longhammer that has speed and added 15 + fire enchantment to it. Love it. You can counter with it which is as good as block, and to make up for issues with dragons and sorcs I use necklaces and enchanted armors with resists, and use scrolls effectively. I collected several various high damage two-handers: mainly hammers and axes and enchanted them all. I'll hop back to the house depending on the quest and types of mobs I'll be facing for the one wiht the right damage type. Something to think about is to get Restoration up early in magic so you can gain fast heal for those moments of heal on the fly, and keep plenty of magick potions for replenishment. Restoration will always be your friend as a two-hander...

Also contrary to Hazzball for this warrior I went heavy and have added all the Ebony pieces enchanted with resists plus use on switch out of the Elf light foot pieces for the 40 + storage while in between bouts. Because heavy is storage bombed you have to make runs, so buy a house early... I have the one in Whtierun, the one in the rebel camp, and beame Arch-Mage so got a full tilt place there too... all in all the game is quite satisfying in that respect. The ♥♥♥♥♥ is finding vendors with enough cash to sell crap too... spend a lot of time traveling between cities after major quests and dungeon sweeps selling crap. Some games are easier on that... making those potions for strength is good too. Helps for storage...

Remember that speed is a major factor as well - using single handed weapons, a wolf pack can be felled much more quickly than with a two handed one.

Of course, once you throw in dual wielding + dual flurry + elemental fury, it's really no contest. But yeah, don't go thinking "damage per strike" is somehow more important than "damage per second".

... and then there's the stealth multiplier on daggers...
Two-handers trade a fast swing speed for higher damage, a slightly better block than one-handed and deal better staggers. Single handed has less weight and cannot stagger larger enemies, and dual-weilding cannot block. Simple as that

You've obviously never taken Windshear dragon hunting.
Uncle64 Dec 16, 2016 @ 2:39am
One handed can stagger, if you put the right perks in.
All seems to forget the issue about stamina, that runs out very fast. If you dont have that you cant attack. Only block, you cant bash or anything.

You can still attack two-handed with no stamina, and you can't block effectively without stamima

yes you attack whit the end of your sword. That is not that good at all.
If you use one sheild you can block. But you cant bash whit it.

Normal attacks do enough damage, you're not supposed to just use power attacks. Also if someone hits your shield with no stamina you're easier to stagger
