How does backstab work exactly?

So, i already have all the perks for bonus dmg and x15 sneak, but what i dont understand is
if i should go with the single dagger power attack or dual dagger power attack? or maybe even the dual dagger power attack combo?

Sneak behind an enemy undetected and do a regular attack. As long as your undetected and have a one handed sword or dagger, the backstab (or neck swipe) animation should happen.

Pretty sure clicking both buttons doesn't add a damage bonus.

Backstab works on the idea of a damage multiplier upon 2 set conditions:
1) Character must be undetected
2) Weapon must be a one-handed sword or dagger
If these are met then a single attack (so a second attack even at the same time will void the first condition, therefore no multiplier for the second) that hits will deal x times the damage of the weapon that is used - Normally instant kill with 30x

Dual wield power attack backstab does get the x30 bonus. I just confirmed this. I'm not sure if it's all the hits or just the first one, but it's very powerful regardless.

Worth mentioning power attacks also trigger sneak attack
and do a lot more damage

Its very noticable when trying to backstab something that has more hp than your Dagger + sneak perk can output. With regular attack it chip its hp down to 20% for example with power attack instead it performs a kill anim and target is dead.
Tho its sometimes tricky to perform.

Also I just tested and the double attack (non power) does register both weapons. You can see this if you use dagger and sword. When I do that attack dual wielding Windshear and Blade of Woe I get two bonuses, x30 and x12

so you can land up to several backstabs in a row on same target as long as he dosent detect you.

Yeah, I know you can keep hitting them and getting the bonus if they don't find you. I mean the special double attack where you tap lmb and rmb at the same time and it swings both once as a single attack. It still applies the bonus to both weapons.

Somebody else was saying this doesn't work if they hit at the same time, so I'm making sure that we know it does work.

The power attack is still stronger I think because it also boost the damage of your base hits. Even if it only procs the first hit it is still stronger than a double backstab since the base hits of it are pretty much double already. The non power double is a lot faster to do though.

Duel dagger power attack works great with max sneak. It's one of the most powerful sneak attacks you can land. Of course if you do it at lower sneak lvls it doesn't work as well if I remember right.
