Deer making a sound from mouth?

Well, this was surprising. Since i have played Skyrim from day 1 i have never ever heard a deer baying...if you can call it that...it sounded like a sharp cry at first, then when it's mouth was closing it went to a soft murmer.

Has anyone else heardit ?

Yep. Was pretty spooky the first time I heard it, sounded like a scream. After a few times I actually saw one. Still freaks me out though.

It mostly can be seen in the Falkreath area (which is of course where there are the most deer). I almost always hear one by the Roadside Ruins (which incidentally is one of my favorite places for screenshotting).

Ah yea that sound brings me memories..
I used to play Trophy Hunter games a lot when i was young
Elks made a very similar (or actually same) sound like Deers in Skyrim.

Yes...spooky sounds...they are spot on.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least that in-game deer make noises that sound a lot like elk. After all, the deer in-game look a lot like elk (so much that that's what I thought they were at first).
