Creation Kit: How to add armor to created npc?

ok, the default armors are boring, i want to switch around the outfits and such, for example, riften curiass and boots and no helmet, it doesnt give me the option to take the helmet off in the outfit list. so how can i add specific armors i want to the npc? i tried dragging and dropping but it just shoes the guy naked in game. help please

you can add specific armor pieces into their inventory, the same way you can add weapons and stuff

In the Object Window > Items > Outfit create a new outfit and add any type of armor to it: boots, cuirass, helmet or clothing, but also shield, amulet and ring. In the Inventory tab of your new actor set the Default Outfit to this new outfit. If you wish you can also set a sleeping outfit. The items of the default outfit will be displayed to the right. All other items go into the Inventory (the larger box below.
