Thalmor party bug
During Diplomatic Immunity I had a glitch that stopped the game from progressing (party part of the quest wouldn't trigger) so I used the setquest console command and everything else worked like a charm, now I realise after progressing much further into the game that the normal people and the Jarls won't talk to me about anything else besides the Thalmor Party:

Jarl Siddgeir Example:
Me: Have you known Elenwen long?
(He answers)
Me: Some Jarls resent the Thalmor. How about you?
(He answers)

No other dialogue comes up besides those 2 options for him, (I'm pretty sure it's pretty much the same dialogue for the other people who've attended the party.) So it kinda makes it impossible to become the thane of any reach.

Load up befor you forced the quest to trigger.

you are probably missing flaggs to trigger the next parts. You could force fix those too but it will get only worse later down the road.

So if you wanne continue beside the warnings, check out the UESP skyrim wki for the quest stages.

I used the setstage command to fix the quest but it seems to be stuck at the create a distraction part, I can't really go back because I'm like way way ahead into the game

has the Diplo quest been completed in you quest log or is it still active?
Have you checked for quest stages in the console to see if its hanging somewhere?
(use: help "diplomatic immunity"to get the quest id and use: Player.sqs quest_id
to see what stages have been completed with a 1, anything makered with 0 is uncompleted.)
Chance the 0 in to 1 and see if it fixes things.

The quest has been completed, upon doing player.sqs MQ201 a lot of the stages aren't completed, when I try setobjectivecompleted mq201 (stage that's marked with 0) 1, it still stays as 0

You are going to have to go to a save before you used the console.

This is why you should use the console with caution, especially to complete quests.

This is why, as has been mentioned many times in this forum, that the console is a debugging tool for modders and was originally not meant to be an aid for players to advance their quests or fix other bugs that arise.

In other words your game is borked and you really have no choice but to go to a save before you used the console if you want to continue playing that character.

Hmm I dont know any other solutions other then to prompt the new quest stages you need from the jarls with commands. but it will get worse.

They are right, you are better off going back to a save before the use of the commands. It means lost time/levels, but who knows how deep it's borked? As you've seen, it's already affecting NPC's. It could get much worse.

Mmm, I could always use the creation kit to make an esp that completely removes the quest from the game. I've already tried to complete the quest using the CK but I don't really think you can set quest stages to 1 using it, so my best option would be to remove it. (I've done an esp that removes it and all the NPC Behaviour goes back to normal, I'm able to talk to the Jarls without them bringing up the party, but is there any other way to do it besides removing the quest?)

You really want to totally break your game, don't you?

As stated previously, your only options are to:
1) load a save made prior to your first using the console.
2) even better, load a save made prior to that quest being initiated (since there was a problem with it in the first place).
3) start a new game.

There are no other options.

^sure there is, you forgot uninstalling. XD
but in the realm of creative solutions. Install the mod "highking of skyrim" I belief you where able to kill of the essential (and bugged ) jarls. Never used it my self thou.

LOL! Was thinking along the lines of continuing to play the game!
As to installing another mod, the OP's game is already pretty much broken, adding more things to it (especially a mod that changes the essential setting of NPCs, thereby risking even more breakage), really is not a viable solution.

Azazel, we all know that it is not very pleasant having to give up a playthrough in which a lot of time has been invested, but, unfortunately, sometimes (as in this instance), it is the only option you have. And, we do not recommend an action such as that lightly; were there some other way of fixing your game, we would go with that, it is just that in this case, there isn't.
liosalpha Oct 30, 2017 @ 6:49pm
I agree. And maybe next time when something out of line hapens make a new save and work on that untill its seemingly fixed. If it goes south again later on you can alway go back.

@ Smr1957
I know, but im sure we are well past the point of viable solutions. So why not have some fun while Alduin eats away trough the broken quest chains.

smr1957 Oct 30, 2017 @ 6:57pm
Not sure how much fun that will be for Azazel though! Also, I shudder to think of other forum regulars responding to further posts with regard to a broken game, not being aware that it stems from this - a true exercise in futility!

I see your name pop up on there pages, and im sure you have seen the "Mages quest broken, pls help!" type of requests :P those are alway fun.

We are getting offtopic tho
