How do I avoid the Thieves Guild Quest? [Solved???]
I want to make a warrior/mage character since I got bored of being a thief. But when I do the main quest story line, it REQUIRES that I talk to Brynjolf and steal his ring and start the Thieves Guild questline in order to figure out the location of Esbern. Is there a way around this? I dont want to have to start a quest Im never going to do since its ganna continuously bug me.

Sadly no, there are mods that let you destroy them and such though.

What I don't understand is why they thought of Destroying the Dark Brotherhood questline if you play a good character, but it didn't occur to them maybe you don't want to play a thief either? It's not even rob the rich kind of thing, for starters the Thieves Guild have themselves wrapped around Maven's finger, who is pretty bad (Also, she tries to summon the Dark Brotherhood). plus pretty much the first quest requires you to torture Madesi who didn't do anything wrong, and the three after that (Destoying the Dibella statue? Threatening a Argonian's family back in Morrowind, sure I can't kill the guy in a house full of bandits attacking me, but I can threaten innocents.)

Perfect for my villain, but the quest is kinda trapped in my current hero's questlog.

I found a couple of mods that should help out, and even a way to avoid the entire questline entirely. If you fail the speech check with Brynjolf and simply say no to stealing the ring, you can apparently go down to the Ragged Flagon and simply bribe the barkeep to give the information. But just in case that doesn't work, you can use this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26359/?
I always just drop the ring after stealing it. That way at least I do not destroy the life of one innocent person. The dialog with Brynjolf reflects the missing ring.

But I'd prefer to destroy the Thieves Guild. Not possible though.

Depending on your persuasion (or just a bribe) you can wander down into the ratway to the bar and ask people there. No need to talk to the annoying nord.
Yeah you never have to do the actual deed either, just walk away when he's doing the distraction then come back later, he rants about it but then still thinks you are thief material.
You can also just walk into the ratways, go to esbern talk to esbern, then walk out whilest giving all the douches the finger.
The fence is hot, I trust her!
Nothing wrong being a killer thief, if you dont like it, just ignore the darkbrother hood quest line and dont get that gem appraised, so you dont meddle with them thieve guild. I like the armor set they give u and the nightmare mount from the darkbrother hood. my character : archer assassin.
But, but but the dagger kills from behind... they are the best.
If only the targets of the Dark Brotherhood were always bad people. Would be more fun.
At least it is not as bad as in Oblivion.
Did you play Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion? THAT was bad. You had to kill the good guys :-(
It's been a while since I played Oblivion, so I don't quite remember the people we killed then, pretty sure it's the same in Skyrim though, on one of the quests, or one of the repeatable ones you have to kill a beggar, not to mention I don't think the Emperor was nessacary a bad guy?

Sure, he helped wiped out the Dark Brotherhood but er, the DB are the bad guys, so he would have a right to do that. (No matter how much I wanted to kill him for killing Astrid, Nazir, Festus, and Gabriella in particular, yeah I know what Astrid did, but still wished you didn't have to kill her).

I would use the blade of woe more, but a bow is my style, it's just annoying moving to a target and having someone else in the same area never move and are watching you, so dagger fails in killing them, then they always turn around.

What do you even think the dark brotherhood is? They get HIRED to kill people, they dont go out looking for people, they are nothing more then killers for hire.
i just walked to his location. i dont remember any issue with not being in guild.
