Skyrim keeps crashing
I've just about had it with skyrim, i love the game to death and i just finished adding some mods but i just can't get skyrim to hold itself together. Particularly i started noticing it whenever i try to do the quest for the DB where you have to murder vittoria. As i'm running down to the entrance it starts lagging a bit i just shrug it off. It was when i tried to open the map, skyrim just shuts off completely and returns me to desktop. I tried again, this time i tapped T for the wait just to make sure i wasn't being pursued before attempting to fast travel, it even shut off when i opened Wait. There's nothing wrong with my laptop, it has perfect memory space for Toshiba. It's just the game itself. It's not just during that quest, i think the game itself is bugged, it just keeps crashing.

Skyrim is bugged. USLEP, which you have, fixes many of them. Mods add many new issues that will take some work on your part to get playing nice together. Specs on your computer and operating system might help or encourage someone to help you. You don't mention using LOOT but the description of your problem indicates you used something. You reading and trying some of the guides available here under guides will help.

I tried and i did attempt to use loot but i don't really understand it, it did help me with a mod i noticed that was incompatible with hearthfire but i don't think that single mod would completely shut down skyrim. I understand there are some bugs, i also get an skse warning for a memory plugin after i installed Crash fix from nexus right on startup but i'm not sure if i should be concerned of that.
Draufen Jul 17, 2017 @ 7:10pm
wtf, are you serious with so many plugins? i d think that would explain everything
Dragons Wish Jul 17, 2017 @ 7:16pm
My laptop is very well capable of handling the mods.

According to Aurthmoor. USLEEP is a BALANCE CHANGING PATCH. It doesn't actually fix many game breaking bugs. Because that's not it's scope.

There is a Unoffical Modder's patch. Which is very good. Also find the mods; "Crash fixes" and a mod called "Bug fixes."

IN ADDITION. INSTALLING ENB IS MANDITORY FOR ALL USERS EVEN NON MODDED GAMES. ESPECIALLY FOR SKYRIM 32 BIT. Check the S.T.E.P. Wiki for instructions, or Gamer Poets youtube video tutorials.

Looking over your load order. Nothing seems like it should cause a crash due to a missing master. Nor are you anywhere near the 255 ESP limit.

Do you use a mod manager such as LOOT, MOD ORGANIZER, WRYBASH, SMASH, TES EDIT, or NEXUS MOD MANAGER?
Jaguar D Saul Jul 17, 2017 @ 8:47pm
I will post my load order. Maybe you can see something in there that will help. Usually CTD's on launch are due to a missing master. Ensure that you are not missing dependancies of mods.

Such as, Frostfall requires Campfire. If Frostfall is installed but Campfire is not, you will likely CTD on boot.

For exampe. With frostfall your load order would look like this;

Skyrim.esm
DLC
DLC
DLC
USLEEP.esm
Campfire.esm
Campfire.esp
Frostfall.esp

The order of manual install is important, and for practical puropses manual installs are not stable and not generally reccomended. Again, I reccomend following the S.T.E.P Wiki installation instructions, if you are having issues with a new installation.

If this is an old installation that worked last week. You messed with something in the load order, or you are subscribed to workshop mods directly and one may have been removed. Leading to instability.

This is how my load order looks which is stable.*

As you can see. Some mods depend on other mods. Sexlab is a requirement for many of the mods that I run. So it is higher up on the list than all the others. Generally the mods that need to be highest are the mods that change the most. I have mods organized in a set of categories.
  1. At the top are all framework mods.
  2. Below that are all mods that require the higher mods to run, such as SOS needing sexlab
  3. The next biggest type of mod is additions and modifications to core gameplay such as better vampires or new/altered skill trees.
  4. Next I add bug fixes.
  5. Then Animations such as new attacks.
  6. Next quests, going from largest content additions to smallest.
  7. Now cities and locations such as falskaar or wyrms tooth
  8. Next weapons
  9. And clothing
  10. Now texture replacers. Such as new potion looks, and female body replacers
  11. HERE is where you put compatibility patches. And SPECIFIC MODS that NEED to be very low in the list. Such as Dual Sheath Redux or Live Another Life.
  12. Finally, this is where you put SKYPROC mods.
  13. And here goes the BASH patch, which modifies all leveled lists.
  14. And lastly here goes your SKYPROC patches, which integrate the changes those mods make.
  15. And this is where you put your last mods. Such as FNIS output. And some MCM options that get spat out.

You will notice that the list I provided dosen't exactly follow the outline I have sugguested. Generally any load order will not. Because when you have everything set. You run LOOT to check your load order against a database of all known compatibilites. SOMETIMES IT WILL MOVE SOMETHING THAT HAS TO BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST. As the mod user, you will have to test this yourself, and use your own judgment. But LOOT is very very robust, and often will solve all problems for you by shifting some things around. It may tell you about ITM records, and Dirty Edits. These can usually be ignored. Unless you understand what those are.
Jaguar D Saul Jul 17, 2017 @ 9:00pm
Finally. I will address the last most likely issue you are having with your game. And feel free to ask questions. Because I will provide support to the best of my ability.

If you added or removed a mod, mid save. The traditional wisdom is that THIS WILL BREAK YOUR SAVE. 100% OF THE TIME. MAYBE INSTANTLY MAYBE IN AN HOUR MAYBE IN 100 HOURS. OR MAYBE NEVER. It's never ever safe to install or remove mods mid game. Ever.

The ONLY exceptions are mods such as;
  1. Mods that replace the look of a steel sword.
  2. Mods that make men or women naked, instead of wearing rags.
  3. Mods that change grass into purple grass, or change the look of buildings.
  4. Any mod that only changes the look of ingame assets.

All other mods add math to the game. Math that you and I never see, and dosen't concern us. Unless we open the console and tell the game to add gold to our inventory, or spawn an NPC.

Markarth is NOTORIOUS for killing frame rate. It's poorly optimized, and can quickly eat all the VRAM the game can use. If you do not use a mod organizer. It may be best to change all settings to their lowest values in the game launcher. And then load up the save that is crashing. If it continues to crash, it's not an issue with memmory. It's a mod causing instability.

There are three ways to deal with this.
  1. Disable all mods, and check if the game still crashes. Which may not be a reliable method.
  2. Disable all mods, and enable them one after another until your game crashes. That mod that crashes the game is either missing a master. Or it is conflicting with another mod. Possibly corrupted, but that is unlikely.
  3. Scrap the entire character. Run a new game with all the mods, and console command yourself outside of the city. Enter, and see if it crashes. If no. Your save may not be salvagable.

Modding Skyrim is extremely complicated at a glance. But there are tonnes of community resources avaliable. And the act of testing and modding itself is quite enjoyable for many. Most solutions can be arrived at with more reading, checking your notes, and logical thinking. Again. I will attept to provide guidence as I am able.

"According to Aurthmoor. USLEEP is a BALANCE CHANGING PATCH. It doesn't actually fix many game breaking bugs. Because that's not it's scope. "

This is ABSOLUTELY WRONG. The main purpose of USLEEP and the Unofficial patches IS to fix bugs. Anything that changes balance or appearance IS NOT included unless it is or can be categorized as a bug.

This, from USLEEP's description page:
"A comprehensive bugfixing mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Legendary Edition. The goal of the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch (aka USLEEP) is to eventually fix every bug with Skyrim and its 3 DLCs not officially resolved by the developers to the limits of the Creation Kit and community-developed tools, in one easy-to-install package."

A full list of bugs fixed can be found here:
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch: Version History - https://www.afkmods.com/Unofficial%20Skyrim%20Legendary%20Edition%20Patch%20Version%20History.html

As to why you should install the Unofficial patches, Nazenn said it best in his post (old but still valid today):
New Players : You must install the Unofficial Skyrim Patches by Nazenn - http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/613956964579064476/

Thank you all, i managed to fix the crashing part. When i use the wait timer it usually takes a minute to actually load. I will have to look into this, and as for the naked people i will likely just leave that alone. I'm not skilled in modding and i don't want to mess anything up, i moved the mods around a little and took off some things and also put a patch on my palaces and cities enhanced mod just in case. I will bookmark this just in case i run into anymore problems. I appreciate it, thanks.

Nope. Aurthmoor has themselves debunked this myth. Granted, I still think USLEEP is absolutely mandatory. But it's not actually a patch that fixes game engine bugs.

No, he hasn't. And if you have information that says otherwise, then cite the reference.

Glad you got it fixed. But can't emphasize enough the importance of reading the pinned topic I linked.

Also:

Helgen Reborn needs to remain unchecked until after the opening is complete and the bandits have taken over the town or things will be totally messed up.

XPMSE should come after Realistic Ragdolls (in fact, you should place it near the bottom of your load order). NOTHING should overwrite XPSME.

You also have conflicting wildlife mods and overlapping town and city mods.

You need to download and use: LOOT - https://loot.github.io/
See: Load order and resource priority basics by Ilja - http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/523890681419356033/ for info on how to use.

As to posting load order, just click on the 3 verticle dots in the upper right corner of LOOT screen, click on copy load order from the drop-down menu, and then paste.

Loot will highlight in red any mod that is missing a master. It will indicate this as an error at the top.

As regards LOOT telling you to clean mods other than the Masters (Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Hearthfires.esm, Dragronborn.esm), DO NOT clean ITMs (unless the mod author or a reliable forum regular says otherwise) as LOOT does not pick up whether these edits (ITMs) are necessary or not, and some mods require them to run correctly. Do, however, clean deleted references, as these may cause problems in your game.

As to cleaning the Masters, see:
