Console - Change Quest Aliases / REFs
Hi, people. Currently I am learning about how quest system works, and I thought to try something but don't see any method to do it.
For starters, I tried changing few of active quest references and found no way to do it.
For example, look at output from "ShowQuestAliases BYOHHouseFalkreath" command, it lists a 'Steward' reference which points at RefID of my current steward.
What I want to do it to try changing it to my other follower, to see what it does or what it breaks.
Mind you, these REF entries are not variables, so SetPQV cannot alter them.
CleanQuestAliases works - it just sets all of them to NONE.
There's a command 'SetQuestAliases', but it does not accept any aliases to set, it has only one argument, quest id.

So, can anyone experienced in console command figure out how do I *change* this REF link to point to other NPC?

If you want to make your current follower your steward, just get the mod:
Dismiss Steward by BiggerDigger - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/34515/?
If you mess around with the console commands in the way you are saying, I guarantee that you will break your game.

"If you don't know what you're doing, using console commands can cause your game to malfunction! Executing the wrong command can cause your game to stop working normally; furthermore, you may not become aware of such malfunctions right away, and you may not be able to trace their cause. They can cause problems like making quests impossible to complete, altering your game's display, all kinds of game behaviors, your ability to play your character, and your ability to play the game at all. Solutions are not always easy, and may involve losing saved games or reinstalling your game.
Create a permanent saved game before using the console. (This mitigates only some kinds of risks.) If you need to use the console to fix a glitch, try to use the least powerful command possible.

I definitely know what am I doing, didn't I write in my previous post "to see what it does or what it breaks"? It's just for giggles and self-education.
Actually, as usual, it seems I found a correct way to do this on my own. Posting it here as a reference for anyone interested.
1. run command "ssq <quest id>", it should print something like "ConsoleScopeQuest >> ByohHouseFalkreath (id)"
2. click on follower or npc, or select anyone with PRID
3. run command "ForceRefIntoAlias Steward" and selected NPC will be linked as a Falkreath steward (found out the ref is not to MY steward by rather to Jarl's)

As a test, I did it with Iona - I set her as Steward in DialogueRiften quest. After that I sent her home and well, she kicked original Riften steward out of her bed and now lives and sleeps there and offers to decorate my house :)
Oh, and she is still a follower (guess this comes from her faction)

The reason I stated the above, is because too many people do not know what they are doing, and use the console as a game aid device (and do end up breaking their game). In your case, however, this obviously does not apply.

You may find the following link of interest (if you haven't already seen it):

smr1957, that was extremely unhelpful. Not everyone is an idiot.

andy-scull, thank you very much for posting your findings, you helped me fix my game. I had purchased/built a hearthfire home, but I adopted my first child before the downstairs bedroom was furnished. This meant that the child owned and used the upstairs bed even after the downstairs bedroom was finished. So I had a downstairs bedroom that wasn't being used, with two beds unusable by anyone but children, and two full-sized beds upstairs that couldn't be used by adults because they were claimed by the children. Even moving the child to a different home and bringing them back didn't work. But, I found a solution by modifying the steps you took here.

HOW TO ASSIGN A SPECIFIC BED TO YOUR ADOPTED CHILD

In the console:
1. "ssq 0300401c" (no quotes)
(This is the BYOHRelationshipAdoptionScheduler quest)
2. click on the bed you want the first child to use
3. "ForceRefIntoAlias Bed1"
4. click on the bed you want the second child to use
5. "ForceRefIntoAlias Bed2"
6. "ssq"
close console.

The next night when they go to sleep, they will use their new beds.

You can make their previous beds usable to anyone by opening the console, clicking on them and entering "setownership" (no parameter). Note that you shouldn't do that for any beds that are specifically child beds. Also, even though you can now sleep on them, sandboxing npc's still might not use them (haven't figured out why yet - maybe they still think they're child-only beds).

Thank you andy-scull and wavion2 for helping me out! To assist others in changing any REF, The following is a purely generic step by step.

1. sqv (questID or quest FormID)
2. --make note of the name of the REF--
3. ssq (questID or quest FormID)
4. --click on the new object you want to replace the REF with.--
5. forceRefIntoAlias (name of REF you wish to replace)
6. ssq

You do realize, that any mod has an equal, if not greater risk of "breaking" one's game, right?

Your posts were without information, without help, and frankly without any meaningful content - you've added nothing to this conversation of any substance, and in fact, have only accomplished inflating your own post count. Your contributions to this thread could've been easily replaced by a rudimentary bot that did keyword searches, and replied with a generic - vaguely on topic response.

In the future, I, and I am assuming others, would prefer if you would simply not post, if you didn't know the answer, and save us from your sanctimonious drivel.

Hello, I need to change a running quest as well, but could use some guidance
Basically Roggi sent me to find his shield in Ansilvund, but I already went to Ansilvund on a previous quest and I'd rather go to Crovangr cave instead.
Can I change the quest target using this method?

No. You will break your game. Console is a developer's tool, not a gameplay aid.

Thank you, but I'm really commited to this. Using the CK I'm trying to get the quest to restart once I finish it via console. Is there a way to make favor205 run on the same quest giver a second time?

Nevermind, I've figured it out.
