Rescue Mission not showing up
So this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is really weird, let me explain.

So i'm just walking around Whiterun you know, and i decided i would do some work for the companions. So i go inside Jorrvaskr to ask someone for a job and for some reason, Skjor, who is supposed to be dead after my over 100 hours of play time, is somehow still alive in there. I know it's a common issue so i didn't think much of it. I decided to ask him for a job as a joke and he ended up giving me the objective to find Lisbet and return her to Markarth. I look on the map and no marker shows up, but i didn't think much of it.

Now that's cool and all, but the thing is, is that I've been married to Aela for about 60% of my gametime and we have a homeless adopted daughter together, plus i own 3 houses filled to the brim with crap i'll probably never use but i hoard anyway because they look cool. Oh, and I gave her a ton of gear. So if you know anything about the Companions lore, then i think you can understand where this is going.

So me being the lovely protective husband that i am, i went down to Skjor's quarters and killed that nerd in his sleep.

I decided to go and do that rescue mission he gave me, but when i activated it, no marker popped up. I then went to the location (Sunderstone Gorge) and cleared the whole thing to find it empty.

I went back to my house to ask Aela for another job thinking that in killing Skjor, my quest had failed. So i ask her for work, but then she explains that VILKAS is the one who gave me that rescue job and that i need to finish it, which makes no godamn sense considering i asked Skjor who is now dead as a door knob.

This is also coupled with the fact that previously, i had gone on a quest with Vilkas to go slay a dragon at the Lost Tongue Overlook. After you complete it, he says he wants to stay for a while to "respect his fallen enemy" or some other warrior code ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. A bartender in Riften gave me a bounty letter to kill a dragon at Lost Tongue so I travelled there to slay the dragon, but there was no dragon cause Vilkas is still walking around the place even though it's been a whole in game week. I talk to him about the quest, and sure enough, he says that he needs me to finish the job before i can get another.

So i go to Markarth where Lisbet is and she is still in her trading company shop at the front counter. I thought talking to her would trigger the quest but it does nothing and she gives me her typical dialogue options. She gives me a quest to go find a Dibella Statue for her, which works fine and she gives me a reward, but i still cannot complete the Rescue Mission quest.

I don't know if this has to do with Skjor being alive when he isn't supposed to which caused a whole chain reaction of retardation to occur. It's not neccesary that i get rid of this quest since it's not breaking my game or anything, but it's still annoying seeing it in my journal when i got to look stuff up.

Is there a console command that will allow me to just finish it and get it over with? Or is it like this forever?

Keep in mind, this whole thing has been ongoing for several weeks as i've been on and off with playing this game recently, however the whole story i just explained is in chronological order. Any help is appreciated.

Messy.
But do you have all DLC:s? if so install Usleep.
You do seems to have some issues in your game. Skjor is hard scripted to die early in the companions questline.
Rescue missions are random missions that you can end whit console. My self dont actually know the correct command you should use.
But some other will know.

You should consider to install the patches, in some cases it fixes old bugs in the game, but not all and not all the time.

Well you could just restart the whole game ... rejig it back to vanilla and not do stuff just for a joke.
When you knew that a glitched skjor was going to give you a mess to deal with ... seems self inflicted. the more you use console to try to save your mess the worse it'll probably get.

Or write it all off as a fun test and reload a save before you met Skjor!

Yea, the Skjor issue is interesting. How did he survive. My self should loaded one old save at that point.

No, I do not have any DLC's other than Hearthfire (I intended to but all I could afford at the time was Hearthfire). I'm also aware that Skjor is supposed to die. He has been dead for a while, but then he somehow just randomly popped back into my game. No one so far knows what causes it from what I've read online.

I also don't want to reload an old save because currently, I only have one character who is level 52 at the moment. If I were to go back to my earliest save, I would have to retrace over 100 hours of looting and questing just to fix a simple side quest, which obviously isn't worth it. It's not that big of a deal though, my game is working perfectly fine right now except for this little hiccup.

Ok If you have Heartfire you should use.
The Unoffical Skyrim patch and The Unoffical Heartfire patch.

Do you have any mods?
Edit did you have any mods in your save that you have removed. At the moment is not one valid answer. if you have one mod installed you cant remove it.

You say you are playing the vanilla game at the moment - did you ever have mods that you uninstalled/disabled during this playthrough? Because you cannot remove some mods mid-playthrough due to the manner in which the info and scripts are baked into the save.

Nope, no mods at all from my entire time playing Skyrim. Vanilla is how I like it.

I'm also a little skeptic about the Unofficial Patch since I've heard horror stories of corrupted saves and messed up textures/models, and after I've created a character that I really like and played with him forever, I'm worried something is going to get screwed up.

Unofficial patch is completely safe - it is just about a necessity. See:

Any story about how the patches ruins the game are false, since it is the user it self that have ruin the game.

USE THEM, dont rely on rumors.
smr1957 Jun 21, 2017 @ 11:11pm
Of course, that being said, the Unofficial patch cannot retroactively fix bugs since, as stated above, Skyrim bakes game data into the save, so any existing scripted bugs are there for good - but the patch will prevent new ones from cropping up and ruining your game.

One further note - you should make it a policy to make hard saves often -- at the very least at the end of every play session - and do not overwrite them (I save like a maniac - every ten minutes or so, as I have auto saves turned off for performance reasons). This way, if you do encounter a bug or need to reload, the furthest back you would have to go is just some hours.

Maybe I will try it out, even though this issue I'm having probably can't be fixed, I'll give the Patch a go. Thanks for the help
Uncle64 Jun 21, 2017 @ 11:26pm
hard saves are your best friends.
Since you can actually "fix" bugs that comes by load old save and do the quest again.
Saves can you delete when you dont need them.
Or as simply as Lydia died in that cave how to give life to her again?
Load the save before you enter the cave and do the cave little different and dont kill her.
