Hands stuck up, and unable to attack, sheath weapons, or cast spells.

Hi Guys.

I've been having MAJOR problems with Skyrim recently. Starting with a constant CTD when I went to Dawnstar. During my days of trying to debug the game, and my mods, I've now come across yet ANOTHER annoying bug.

Once I switch from one weapon , to another. Or a magic spell, the weapons vanish, or my hands get stuck up, and I'm unable to cast the spell.

I've been looking through all differant posts. Going right back to 2012, and EVERYTHING, thats been suggested hasn't worked.

The suggested fixes I've tried so far are: -

- Install the unofficial patch
- using the "showracemenu" command
- removing ALL but the save files from the document/skyrim folder. This just reverted me back to a save a made weeks ago.
- Removing Dawnguard. It was suggested that it was a glitch with this DLC.
- Going back to an older save.
- Validating my files. Lost count how many times I've done this.
- I have switched off EVERYTHING other than Skyrim, and Update in NMM. Again NOTHING. So this has got to do with either Skyrim, or the update.

I'm REALLY baffled as to whats suddenly caused this. I've pretty much got all my mods switched off now. Even so, I never had this problem with them all switched on.

Any help, or advice would be greatly apriciated.

Sounds like at some point, you had something change Dawnstar.. which these days is very rare for a mod to actually leave a lasting perma change, unless you did a manual. Tho' there are a few that could be guilty.
The hands issue sounds like a animation or maybe weapon / spell type change.
ShowRaceMenu would pretty much be a useless advice just based on what your saying here..

So what anyone really needs to know..

Mods you have installed and load order LOOT list.

It could just be an easy mess up in a mod / file for your dawnstar, or maybe a simple problem that needs a bash.. and the hands.. mmmm. probably just an animation.. for now I say that.

Did you ever have a mod in the past that effected Dawnstar but you removed before the CTD issue?

"Hands up" sounds like animation error.

Is it possible that you have old skeleton in your game folder files? That would not be shown in your load order.

Have you ran Fores New Idles - FNIS, in case you have/had skelton or other animations that require FNIS?

As you can see from the load order, I ONLY have Skyrim, and the update loading in order to test it. Still have the same issue.

I've just run the FNIS fix as suggested. Again still have the same issue. I ca, put a shield into my left hand, but hold nothing in my right. Even then, I am unable to move my arms, attack, or cast spells.

Now more baffled than ever.

Okay MAY be a little closer to solving the problem. I went back to an old save, level 8, i'm level 21 in the current play through, and everything is fine. Obviously though, a lot has happened, and alot of weapons have changed since I waas level 8. So it seems like a corrupt save file. Only problem is that I've no save files from before this issue started. Other than some from a VERY long time ago.

Ideas?

YAY FIXED IT...

Found a video on youtube about restoring old folders. I did this for my saves folder, and luckily the files that were in there are only from a couple of days old. From just before I started having these problems.

Now I've got the issue of the game freezing randomly. Now that I've switched most of the mods back on.

random freeze is much easier to deal with. :)
Graphics or mod scans are the normal there.
Check your mods for scanner timers, and change the values to offset at least 5 -10 seconds from each other. IE SoulGem scan at 30 sec's Beeing Female at 40 secs etc etc. Probably help out on a lot of that.
Otherwise, tweak your graphics.. if your running ENB default Boost settings are a big help.

Also, I'm not really seeing ETaC's patches in your load order. Did you check his compatibility page and make sure you're using all the patches you need to?

It just happened to me.
Fixed it after equipping a saved item set using the shortcut key

Ok I just had this happen. One fix that worked for me is transform into the vampire lord form, put your hands up and down. With your hands down transform back. That fixed it for me at least.
