What is ENB, is it okay to use?
So I've been seeing a lot of references to 'ENB'. I see people that make their game look incredible, and they always mention 'with ENB' or something. I looked into it a bit, and it mentioned it injects your game with some sort of graphics overhaul or something. But I'm aware that if you inject anything on Steam, randomly it can detect it as cheating and VAC ban you on unrelated games and stuff like that.. So is it okay to use with steam, and can someone point me in the direction of instructions?
My CPU is an FX6300, but I've overclocked it a bunch, and I know an OC 6300 is basically equivilent to the 8350 anyways (which is recommends on AMD side). I have a 960, I know it won't be enough, but I'm ordering an RX480 in a few days, so I'll be set.
Thanks :)

No it's safe. Skyrim is a single player game.

You can start here it will give you a good idea what to expect:

Avrie has also made a guide for this forum. It can also be found from pinned topic Player spreadhseet.

Regardless of what ENB preset you decide, don't forget to get the binaries from Boris's site.

http://enbdev.com/download.htm <- Boris makes ENB binaries which any game that uses ENBs runs off one of his versions, so be sure to grab the right one (or next higher version).

ENBs are applied to Skyrim (and other games), not to Steam itself.

I got it working, it was much easier then I thought it was going to be.
But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the graphical difference is inane when paired with the right lightning mod. Thanks for the help everyone

I know, I worded that completely wrong.. I've just heard of lots of people who've been banned from CS:GO, COD etc from having something similar. When it said inject, it made me think it would tamper with the exe, which steam would say no no and screw me over

Oh, ENBs totally do that. So does SKSE. Skyrim isn't VAC-bannable, though, and if someone claims they ever got banned from one game for modding another, you can take that with a grain of salt. ;)

Usual stuff with GTA Online as well.

- I modded Skyrim and got banned from GTA:O. WTF Rockstar?

- No. You cheated and thought you didn't get caught. Last thing you did before the session where ban hit was modding Skyrim.

- I didn't cheat! I was banned for nothing!

- Aren't you the same ♥♥♥♥ that flew around destroying other players with indestructible helicopter? Yep, You have the same name in Social Club.

- Yeah? So? I modded SKYRIM before I got banned. Not FLYING you ****.

- You guys just are not getting any smarter...

- F*** Bethesda and and Rockstar. I was modding SKYRIM. I got banned for NOTHING!

That is how this BS about "getting banned from online game, by modding a single player game" begins. Those guys just can't grasp the concept that online game systems do not hit the ban when they caught a cheater.

They observe to see which holes they are using, so that they can take steps to patch them. Ban hits, when they decide they know enough, or when cheater becomes big enough issue for others.
