You actually must do it correct, and you must be at Dawnguard castle.
As Eternie did say, load one old save. That you dont have. To bad.
Most games recommend .... Save .... Save .... Save.
I would add that you use try to to make a hard save just inside a dungeon, castle or city so if something goes wrong you have a save at the start of it.
Also occassionally actually delete the quick save so that it doesn't have parts of all your travels around skyrim saved over and over in the same save.
Nice to have when starting new games.
Edit: .. at one stage I wondered why Skyrim took a while to load ...
and discovered I had 20GB of save files ... so for me that was too many ... so I reduced that by a massive amount.
Each save gives a record of which part I'm up to and which mods I had installed.
