Silus Sesuius attacks before he can talk to me (FIXED)

So i am at the part of the quest were Dagon is talking to you and i want to not kill silus so i pick the other option. and after i finish talking to Dagon Silus try's to talk to me but cant so he assumes i want to kill him, does anyone know how to fix this?

I do not know whether this will work for you but it does work for me.

If I stand on the same side of the altar that Silus stood on when he is trying to put the dagger together, when I tell Dagon that Silus deserves to live Silus will tell you to give him a chance to run for it. But then you will not get the dagger. If you stand on the opposite side Silus will say he is not going down without a fight and you will have to kill him, but then you will get the dagger.

I use this as a bit of sophistry to say no to Dagon but still get the dagger.
