what race should i choose if ...
I'm tired of reading that race doesn't matter. Of course it does .. unless, of course, you start the game at a very high level. I like to start at level 1, so race matters. If I want to be a mage, I choose Breton. If I want to be a fine rug, I choose Khajit. Why would I choose Breton if I wanted to be a fine rug? Huh? Race (like size) does matter.

If you think race matters then you need more experience playing the game.

1948 hours. I know that's not a record, but it's still a bit.

race doesn't really matter .... some races have certain slight advantages in certain play styles however you can better choose mods to alter race characteristics.

OK, I'll grant that mods could make race not matter. Without mods, however, race matters quite a bit. Again, there's only one race that allows me to be a fine rug .. only one race that allows me to start with 25 illusion .. etc. The whole point of the thread is that most games start at level 1, and race DOES matter early game. There's usually a "best" race for whatever archtype you have in mind at characte creation. WHO are YOU?
If you choose Kajits or Argonians, you can't enter Windhelm. That's the only difference I've ever noticed. That may also be a mod of mine.

Race only matters at low levels, once you get past a certain point, then perks and enchantments on your armour outweigh it to such a degree, that race becomes irrelevant.

Which is why everyone says race doesn't matter, or is only a minor detail.

That is indeed a mod. Inconsequential NPCs. Not so inconsequential now are they?

Race doesnt even matter at the start of the game, because you are essentially forced to play a mixed character one way or the other. If you play as a full mage from first second you will get rekt by the majority of enemies for example, especially when you play on higher difficulty. Good luck in killing a draugr lord on low level with magic on master or legendary...

Race matters if you min/max like a munchkin. I don't understand the need on a game like Skyrim.

What really matters if how you want to roleplay it. You are stereotyping the races.
Race does matter when you think about it. If you begin a game as a Khajit you start off good at sneaking, starting off as an Argonian lets you avoid disease, and if you choose to be an imperial you can get lots more gold than other races.

This thread is making me wish for the older racial traits to be back in these games :steamsad:

the're mods for that .....

Race matters in vanilla, orcs have the best race power, it's so good that even mages would benefit from playing as an orc. Not to mention you don't have to do the quest in order to get into orc strongholds.
