Your gender gets hard baked into the script. In all likely hood you will develop problems down the line by changing genders after the fact.
Better to start a new character.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that everyone will refer to you as your main gender, but if you don't mind it, showracemenu will do

Last I remember, it only messed up your stats, not the whole game. And only when changing race. If you changed anything else, it'd stay the same.

It's ok for changing stuff like color, hair and size. Don't use it to change gender or race.

All quests pull upon your gender/race the instant they are remarking on it. For instance, If you talk to Alvor's wife as a male, she'll say something like "I'm already married, buzz off." If you approach her as a female, she pretty much says "Don't go chasing after my husband, he's already married." I just tested this, so if it works with her, it works with all quests/dialogue. Enjoy!

Changing gender is not a supported feature by the game. It will treat the player according to their original gender. It also does not always treat head properly. Most cases you end up with a character with female body and male head, if you try to turn from male to female...." - Ilja

But that's not true. I tried once to change sex, but my stats didn't change

That is not true. I've changed race and gender sometimes, and while it did mess up some stats (mainly due to racial bonuses, probably), it never "reset my perks" or anything

i have used the showracemenu a couple of times and never had any issues changing the gender of my charachter. Changing your race may mess up ur perks, since u get different skill bonuses for each race.

A bit late to the party. I used player.sexchange and indeed will have some nightmares based on the male head on female body.

I then used showracemenu and changed genders, but specifically kept the race. This allowed me to have the other gender, but also kept all skills and perks.
