How to UNDO With Friends Like These *SPOILERS*

I thought the Dark Brotherhood wasn't actually all that bad but I hate playing it's questline but do not have any safe games older then With Friends Like These

I've completed the shed in this save: but I still need to visit the sanctuary. Is there any way I can retake the quest and kill the DB member instead of one of the captives? thanks

You will need to use those console commands to set the stage of the quest to its start. Be careful though, it may break other things or the questline. usualy setstages commands are used to go past buggy stages in quest. I dont know what will happen if you go back in the stages with the command. Make a different save and try, maybe it will work

You cannot reset a quest backwards - you would have to go back to a save from either before that specific point in the quest was initiated, or from before the quest itself started. If no saves are available, and you felt you really did not want to proceed with the quest as it is playing out, you would have to start a new game (this is due to the fact that the info has already been baked into the save).

just like you've been told - there's no turning back. Yes, some of the contracts you get are to kill innocent people which makes yoi feel bad but remember that this is just a game after all.
Just have in mind tha some of the people you have to kill can give you quests. Just talk to them first to see they give you quests and then kill. There's one contract where you kill the jarl's steward in Falkreath which prevents you from becoming a thane there (in case if you still haven't).

I'm surprised anyone has to say this!

Smr is correct, the game records how far you have advanced in a quest line, you can't advance backwards and undo it. If you have started the Dark Brotherhood questline then you can only advance or ignore it. I personally would get it over and done with.

Please don't make smr state the blindingly obvious again (not picking on smr, smr is only shooting down insane idea's, which is for the good of all)

I only wish it was so blindingly obvious - the number of times that this (as well as other "obvious" things) has to be stated - over and over again, by myself, by Ilja, by cfs, Avrie, and others (far too numerous to be named), borders on the ludicrous.

I know, believe me I know.

And to most people it is obvious, you literally can't use the commands to advance a quest backwards, programming doesn't work that way. The fact people are trying it is absurd.

Hey i just did it, i failed the friends like these and got destroy the dark brotherhood. You just need to move astrid to you with console commands, turn her on non essential (yeah it works) and kill her.
