Alpharad adores this game.
He's been singing its praises for days on Twitter now, and weird he has yet to produce a video on it(as of this writing). As one of the biggest Platform Fighter youtubers, bunker down and prepare for the influx of new blood once the inevitable video drops.

I tend to agree with him(Alpharad) on this. It may not have the speed of a game lke Melee (even compared to some/most of the "floaties"), but as far as design, music, aesthetics, gameplay, and general fun/entertainment I feel it's leauges above most platfomer fighters. I have not regretted a penny spent or a minute played!
I'm not quite sure how I feel about aerial "Strong Attacks", since I don't want to commit a button to that particular mechanic and by doing so have lent myself to doing it accidently far too frequently with the right stick. That, however, is because I don't want to deviate from the traditional controls of platform fighters I play regularly, fearing I may create some sort of muscle memory for attacks/mechanics that do not exist in other games. I may have to make some concessions, because I think the mechanic is rather interesting and is not detracting. (It would be interesting to have it on the DPad or a jump/footstool-esque macro a la PM). Any ideas would be gladly accepted.
How do you set up your controls, if you play on controller? What do you bind your Strong Attack to? Being able to charge attacks (smashes) with the right stick is welcome. I already screw that up when I play Melee due to other "Smash" games implementing it - though I've thought to turn it off or that I'd like a grab+right stick macro. I have kept tap-jump on (something I didn't do with sm4sh - don't ask) to try and keep as much continuity between Melee and other similar plat-fighters, moving forward.
As far as a competitive spectator friendly, I'm not sure where the game will be, it's a bit early to speak on that seeing as it's in Beta still or somewhere post-typical-Alpha still.

Its also so surreal I got into this game like half a month before he uttered its name on Twitter, because usually he's the one to introduce me to these sort of games.

The only real complaints one can really muster is the game is kinda ugly and its a hard sell to people to people with no prior investment in the dev. The 'ugly' graphics can somewhat be dismissed when factoring in how this game takes inspiration more from Smash 64 overall than it does Melee(beyond just the fighting mechanics, I mean).

I think what helps the most is its clear this game was made like a love-letter to Smash, and not some weird cash-in like Cartoon Network Time Punch Explosion, where they knew they had some semblance of clear 'star power' to sell it regardless of quality.

I will be checking his video out on it shortly, just not in a position right now to properly enjoy it.

That video is hilarious and really captures the essence of the game. I'm in love with it right now and I want to play so much more. Can't wait for it to pick up in popularity so more people discover it.
