Well, had you not seen this game you might like?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJpzvqKxj_s
I think that Airline tycoon (1 & 2) look far superior to this game.
We live in an era where game developers need huge amounts of money and technology to make a decent game. And at the same time, many amateurs with a few computer skills can make a game using tools like unity, rpg maker etc...
So, we end up with a lot of corporate stupidity and mediocre games made by amateurs with no vision, no talent, no skills, no budget, no team etc...
Sad days.
1: "Seems like a poorly made Unity game? Well your wrong," I am one of the main devs with help with other 2 people working on that game and it's still a work in progress.
2: "We live in an era where game developers need huge amounts of money and technology to make a decent game. And at the same time, many amateurs with a few computer skills can make a game using tools like unity, rpg maker etc..." Yes, you are right that devs needs a big amount of cash to start when making a game but we all know that's a rare thing where anyone would have the big cash to spend on a video game.
3: "So, we end up with a lot of corporate stupidity and mediocre games made by amateurs with no vision, no talent, no skills, no budget, no team etc... " Well, yes and no, yes you do in fact see games that are badly made and are used for cash grabs only but no and why I have seen games that are AAA made by one or a small group of indie game devs who know what it takes to make a fun looking game.
4: "Sad days." Life is sad and life is short but that's how life is now days :/
Look at Phoenix Point. It's made with Unity. But they have some serious funding behind their project. But at the same time... It's still an Unity game. It's not as amazing as the first X-COM or X-COM Apocalypse. It's high tech compared to the other games, but it's a terrible game.
They picked Unity to make a game that works on PC (of course) and on console. It's not a quality choice, it's a corportate choice to make money.
And Unity have no soul. Look at Airline Tycoon. If you are making a game, I advise you to try the game a little. Or maybe Transport Tycoon (the open source version is awesome). These games are simple, primitive even, but they had a soul. Airline Tycoon with its graphics. Dark, colorful comics. It had a soul. Something close to the french touch. A real identity.
Transport tycoon had deep mechanics. A large map, randomly generated map, trains, airlines, helicopters, trucks, roads, different options, automation option etc... Enough to hook the player in that need to build.
Well, if you lack the budget of big corporations, maybe you got the tools they didn't have back then in the day.
Why aren't you updating Transport Tycoon? Or updating Airline Tycoon with extra options and mechanics? You have access to superior tech.
What are the strong points of your project?
Big corporation can put large sums of money on the table to make money. But they will ask a game that can be played by MOST players. So, it will be "not too hard", "not too violent" etc... Something for the big public. Not too smart, dumb people have to play too... And you end up with a Battlefield. And speaking with BF, they will add their political agenda. It's WW2, but add women soldiers. Because feminism, to please women. So you add a woman.
And then they make you give her a robot arm because it looks badass... Etc etc... Silly stuff.
And boom, it's not your game anymore. It's a game designed by a suit out of business school.
So, tell us about your project.
I'm a difficult old gamer, sick and tired of poorly made games. What can you tell me to make me want to play your game?
I looked at the videos you posted on Youtube. Dev vids? And it was the start menu and difficulty menu again and again.
Little note:
Difficulty screen is a bad idea. A good game doesn't have difficulty levels. Did we have difficulty levels in Sim City? Minecraft? I don't remember. But in a real sandbox, there is no difficulty levels.
What do you do? You make planes crash all the time in high difficulty? It should be a sandbox with a set of rules, and you let the player adapt and learn. If the player sucks... Well, he will have a hard time, the time to learn to play.
Like life. No difficulty settings.
