How do you become a MAC Platinum Member?

you need to put more cash in bankomat in town (use the left portal after a boss, to get back in town)

you can also buy something in the store to upgrade it (after a few times)

and you can also upgrade the gardener (bring him some fruits)

As you have more tapes in the bank, you're status will upgrade. Platinum is something like 250 I think? It lets you withdraw tapes at ATMs in the field (50 tapes, with a 5 tape fee tacked on). At somethign like 500 or so, you can start buying items on credit if you don't have enough on hand, at a surcharge of 10% more for the item. the numbers are estimates, I'm already over 1000 banked and I can do both.

The game doesn't give any big announcment or anything. The only way to really know is to interact with the bank or the atm and see the option is now available. When you are at the bank in town, it will tell you your current rank up at the top of the window for withdrawing funds.

Yeah just keep adding tapes, when you hit platinum you also get a bank card so you can charge things while in the field for a nominal fee.
