Mutation Beast mode-toxic upgrade is really bad design.
Lets get into it.

[I'm playing on the Switch btw.]

Beast-mode is great! A great combo starter, ender and nearly endless stun-lock.

+Beast-mode Turbo, same thing; amazing + more initial dmg

+Beast-mode Toxic, UTTERLY stupid and terrible. If I had a choice I'd avoid upgrading Beast-mode outright to avoid the unfortunate chance of nerfing the basic Beast-mode.

The reason its bad? Because upon using Beast-mode Toxic for a brief moment immediately places the ability in CD for 2-3 seconds which is BS. It can't be used to stun-lock or reliably to get outta dodge if an ambush goes badly. [World 3-2, I'm looking at you.]

Was this on purpose to place the ability on a harsh CD so suddenly making the ability all but a useless upgraded?! As it stands, poison dots are pretty trash, and on beast-mode toxic, its hot-garbage, so why?! The poison dot is as pathetic as level-1 Snake-head... Useless after World 1-1 / 1-2

When I had that and the upgrade there was no difference between the upgrade and base OTHER than the fact it had poison now on hit.

The difference is the immediate CD on activation of beast-mode charge ONLY with Beast-mode Toxic.

Are you playing on the Switch or PC?

I'm playing on the Switch. Normal Beast-mode active can be repeatedly activated until the bar is full depleted.

Toxic Beast-mode, upon activation for a single press/release, the ability IMMEDIATELY goes on cooldown even tho its not fully-exhausted for about 2-3 seconds.

Turbo Beast-mode works like the BASE beast-mode, can be reactivated many times, as long as you have bar.

Ok, you'll have to help me understand how to use Beast Mode properly. That is one mutation I simply can not get a handle on. Ilove the look, and the extra speed is nice, but ultimately I end up getting in a lot more trouble then it's worth when I try using it. Each time I use it, I can't use it again until it fully recharges.

Beast-mode can be used in two different ways :

1- Single button press allows you to charge/stun and can be used multiple times until the cool-down bar drops down completely

2- Hold button allows you to charge for a longer time with great speed and activates the cooldown bar when the charge has ended.

I never use the second option as i find it pretty useless compared to multiple charge/stun you can do by single pressing the button. That said i did you it to travel over a big cliff without having to use teleports.

And to answer the OP, i agree with you : toxic beast mode is damn useless compared to beast mode turbo ! It should have been the default mutation imo.

Hey Guys,

I spoke to the devs on Doublefine's discord, and i didnt exactly get confirmation that Toxic BeastMode is buggdd with weird CD, but they mentioned it wouldnt be addressed in the lastest Switch patch. (Which arrived 2 days ago as i also play on the Switch.) It may *soft confirm* that they are looking at it.

@phadin

Beastmode toxic (upgrade) is the only exo mutation that seems to bug on CD until its fully recharged.

Regular Beastmode and Beastmode turbo (the 2nd possible upgrade), can be used rapidly by lightly tapping (tap for a quick charge) then 2 hit combo with bat, then tap beastmode again -Rinse and repeat. For enemies that can get stunned, which is nearly everything with exception to some Big bosses and the last boss... Beastmode (non toxic) is the best melee combo starter, ender, continuation etc.

You basically stunlock majority of enemies (especially those stupid alpha humanoids on world 3-2)
