Buggy controls - notebook and car parking brake
I was actually okay with the swing arm walk mechanic at the beginning, but ever since the notebook was made available, clicking the right trackpad pulls out the notebook... left trackpad does the same, so no more walking.

Also, couldn't disengage the parking brake on the car (at least that's what it seemed like). Pressing the throttle revs the engine and moves forward very slowly at times, but the sounds indicate the brake is still on. Tried repeatedly to pull the parking brake handle... it pulls out, but seems to have no effect.

Beautiful game, love that the outstanding facial animations from the original game are here, but please get the controls straightened out. Holding off on my review until after the first patch, but as of right now, it's going to get a big thumbs down.

[UPDATE]
Several responses from the community that disconnecting game controllers may fix the issue. In my case, removing my X52 Pro HOTAS immediately fixed the problem.

Edit: Apparently some people had luck with disconnecting any unused joysticks, controllers etc. That might be worth a try.

The controls and overall implementation are bad IMO. Agreed, it is a beutiful game and the facial animations really stand out in VR. I gave it a big thumbs down for the same reason.

This game REALLY needs FREE movement with touchpad at least as an option.
Use the grips to grab stuff. The car driving use one hand to drive and the other to accelerate. Using two hands is not intuative. It was fine for me using my left hand to steer and my main hand to accelerate. Braking was not bad while driving for me. It takes some getting use to. I don't think it deserves a thumbs down. Who wants ever VR game to be the same? Let the developers be creative. To the other posts where applicable: People need to be more open minded to other ways of doing things in VR. Otherwise you just stifle innovation. For an adventure game everything is fine. You shouldn't be rushing through like a bat out of hell. That is my strong feeling like it or not. The game is not bad at all.

This! Again we have a game coming from a AAA house, that reults in what can only be described as a bad VR experience.

Believe me, I tried every variation of hands on the wheel, trying car start up in various orders, etc. Every variation resulted in the car revving, but not moving. Like I said, if you've ever actually driven a car with the parking brake on, that is what this felt like.

As far as a thumbs down review, I don't know how I could give a game with inoperable controls a thumbs up. Different is one thing, broken is something else entirely.

Controls are amazing. Get good.. I'm not even trying to be an ass. Its just a matter of getting good.

Well, if you're not trying to be an ass , then I guess you come by it naturally. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it's working on every system configuration.

The controls on my system are BROKEN, as in, don't work.... it has nothing to do with not being good. Clicking the left trackpad pulls up the notepad, clicking the right trackpad also pulls up the notepad (which it should not). Clicking the right trigger with the car started and the parking brake off revs the engine, but the car doesn't move... I'm not sure how I can "get good" at simply pulling the right trigger. I have a library of over 200 VR titles for my Vive, so this isn't exactly my first rodeo.

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever find a fix?
Nasty Headwound Jan 30, 2018 @ 1:39pm
Nope, still can't drive a car... throttle to the floor, engine revs, but the car never moves. I've even done a full windows reinstall with no luck. It seems like the parking brake won't turn off... come on Rockstar, any fix for this?

SAME PROBLEM 8 MONTHS LATER i just got the game as a gift, it insists on playing disgusting and obnoxious unskippable tutorials and then when its finally ready to 'let' me drive the car just stays there as if the hand break is still on

The notebook is bugged as hell for me too. Unplayable. It pulls out automatically every time a car passes (I have to continually put it away to to slowly escape its clutches)
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Ah that's interesting on the peripherals. (I've got a joystick plugged in, could be the cause for me).

Turned off my HOTAS and everything is fine again... can't believe I didn't try that on my own. :steamfacepalm:

No reply from Rockstar in over a year and the community solves it for me. Thanks a bunch @mettanine and thanks for nuthin' @RockstarGames
