Rockstar activation code?

So I started this game up after purchasing my steam key from Green Man Gaming. The steam key worked and the game downloads. When starting it up I have to register with Rockstar with an id (I hate games that do this!!!). Now it wants a Rockstar activation code. The steam key doesn't work for this. Where do I find my Rockstar activation code?

Go to your library, find "L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files", right click on it and select "View CD key" from the drop down list. You can copy the key to the clipboard from here and try to use this key as activation code.

turns out wrong family steam account linked to rockstar account. major hassle to get unlinked.
