Game Size on Disk?
Hi there,

Just a small thing I noticed, maybe someone else has --- but when installing the Game, it mentions that it requires ~42GB of hard drive space.

What I am seeing is that, after a fresh install, it is in fact directly related to a reduction of 72Gb of free space (and filled at least 122GB while attempting to update when i noticed this in the first place as my HDD was empty)

Now... when i go into the Steamapps/common game directory, the folder itself is indeed only 42GB large... just wondering why/where the extra 30Gb of disk space is coming from.

Other notes:
-I have a dedicated HDD for steam/games, so it's not filling AppData or other windows root directories, it is indeed in my "steam dedicated" HDD where this extra 30Gb+ is being taken up.

-No workshop or addons to blame.

-for the "more than 122Gb" during an update, i recognize extra space is needed, particularly for large patches to keep backup of the game directory during install, etc. ... but still seems like "a lot"

Any one else notice this?

(PS: This game is one of my all-time favourite VR games to date... keep up the great work! So excited for every new release and update!)

The 1.7MB update is taking a ridiculous amount of time to install (over 10 minutes so far), so it wouldn't surprise me.

Steam does funky stuff with file compression, I'd say you need to ask steam support, not the developers of the game. The reason I say this is because the game is only taking up 42gb on my end, anything extra will be steam compressing/uncompressing files and possibly not deleting temp data.

This is... likely true -- just odd that it only seems to be for this game at the moment (that I've noticed mind you) -- with very consistent "taking up more space than steamapp fold is telling me".

I'll try to give them a poke as well, but I'm sure i'll get heckled with "while updating it reserves memory for rollback - blah blah"

Awesome news! Thanks for keeping up on this Curs0 (just in time for me to be re-downloading again also on next release!)

Every little bit helps, keep up the great work and great support :)

I can confirm that on install, it tells me the game is ~42GB (approx) to download ... it reserves ~72Gb throughout downloading/update process (beginning at the said ~42Gb) ... and stays consuming said ~72Gb when complete.

Certainly much nicer experience than the "says 42Gb, but takes up 122Gb" and is a safe margin to not likely, or at least less likely, to cause issues/shortage on space while updating!

40% improvement on gamesize in general is a huge jump and a very nice touch! Well done.

I am a happy Surv1v3r :)

Thanks again! Nice improvement.

(ps: is this 42Gb linked to anything, or hard coded into the game profile in steam somehow? ~~ i wonder if its an easy update within Steam to get it to show the true necessary storage space for the game)
