people are STILL mad about this game?
I finished this game the week it came out and I didn't think about it at all until today when I decided to check if there was an update. I come back to the discussions and what do I see? seethe. seethe everywhere. why are people so obsessed with this game?

It was much worse back then, but many of those people moved onto the Veilguard and Avowed Steam forums. It's basically the "NPC update chip" meme.

There was no anger, only apathy. Best left forgotten.

Which it has been.

It's honestly not that bad. The discussions have quieted down. The only people left are those that enjoy talking about the game. There's still the occasional 'bait post'. But a fair few of the threads have turned into proper discussions... depending on who you ask.

Edit: I will admit, it is a bit ridiculous to see the same 'propaganda' post pop up from time to time, cause the devs already debunked that ages ago. But every so often, a new user, who's unfamiliar with the history of these threads, makes a new post whining about the game with the same talking points for the umpteenth time.

for some reason there are still like three or so self-admitted naz*s frequently posting here because they find the game "interesting" but it's mostly fans now that the initial hatred has died down.

Calling Houseman, LootHunter and Greyhawk Nazis is a bit extreme, don't you think? They just have different opinions to yours, that's all.
I've interacted with a few people from this discussion thread outside of steam, and they all seem pretty normal. Xacova and I DM each other occasionally, I've met Greyhawk in other places, Sarge has also DM'd me along with Kaine from ages back. I've even had a chat with that valkyria lady.
(To be fair, I haven't sent a friend request to LootHunter yet, and Houseman rejected mine months ago.)
Anyway, point is: Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they're advocating for something else. People can be neutral and still have opinions. It's important to listen, as engaging with others is how we shape our own opinions and move forward.

To be fair, if you only look at the first page of this forum, more than 50% of the topics don't suggest a serious intention to discuss the game, but generic hate/troll/bait content. The discussions themselves then sometimes evolve in a different way, like "Dustborn at TGA", which ended up being a substantiated discussion of "how bad is Justice really". But a new or returning person who sees the first page might not even go there.

I guess we all can do better at creating new threads when an interesting tangential topic comes up during threads about a different topic.

Yeah that makes sense. There's actually a topic I've been sitting on for a while now (another observation), that I'll probably end up making a topic about once I've gathered all the necessary clips.

Also speaking of that TGA thread. I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason why the dev account never answered any of the main talking points, is due to it perhaps being in the next major content update for the game. I remember a while back, Xacova asked about Purity and Axiom, and got a rather... cheeky response from the dev account, which means there are plans to expand on it, just not yet.

But back to your main comment. Something I find odd is when an old, already debunked thread, gets necro'd again for seemingly no reason. Like that new porn thread. I feel like everyone who's been here for the long run can already move past that topic, as everyone already knows both the short and long answer for that question. But then some outside force brings in new people who just can't move past that point. Or the government funding thing. Perhaps an FAQ would help newcomers that debunk the main talking points.

I'm a bit less optimistic that we will get some more answers about major plot points from the developer account and future updates, and I'm very cool with that.
For stuff like the badness of Justice, it's actually quite insightful to see how different players perceive, recall and discuss information from the game. There are a few fun studies in social psychology in there, like seeing how players that side with Justice would rather interrupt the cops at Betty's than listen to what they have to say about Anomals, which gets worse with every single sentence.
For Axiom stuff, I'm sure that the developers would like to keep this as a mystery for now, to maybe explore in future stories. (By the way, there is some detailed discussion of Axiom-related stuff in the recent thread in the Gameowners forum.)

My hope is that at some point of the future there will be something like The Tome of the Balance was for Dreamfall: Chapters, a collection of fun stuff and internal documents that were originally intended exclusively for the team.

[Edit]: Out of curiosity, I checked the developers' responses to Xacova, and they do suggest that there might be an update with more information on substantial plot points such as Axiom, albeit not revealing everything. So I guess we can stay tuned.

It is just a bad game better left forgotten, better make it a study case on how not to make a story driven game.

Do you recognize the irony of coming to a forum about a game you feel is better left forgotten and commenting on it?

I love the fact that people are still trashing this failed woke recruitment device that inaccurately labels itself as a game.

We're working on an FAQ! It's been delayed a few times, partly because of the activity in this forum: some topics have fallen by the wayside (no reason to dredge them up again) while others keep reappearing (hello "new porn"!), and we want the FAQ to be as relevant and updated as possible. But it should be ready before the end of next week!

The next patch is due before Christmas, but don't expect any major story updates in this one — we just haven't had the time. But yes, we ARE working on an update that will address suggestions, questions, ideas and feedback received in this very forum (and on Discord, Reddit, etc.)

There was a lot of material — plot and backstory — that was left out of the launch version of the game, for many reasons: time/cost, pacing, editorial decisions, etc. We're looking at what players are asking for and what the team has created, and we're going to make some decisions about how to evolve and expand (or edit) the game.

Your discussions and feedback — when it's been constructive! — has been instrumental in this process, and we really appreciate the members of this community who stick around and are willing to discuss and debate, with us and each other. You're helping make the game better, and you're helping us get better. Thank you!
