In fairness, I would be doing the same thing as the developers. Some folks really don't care about the context and will use any opportunity to dunk on something.
Yeah. That does make a lot of sense.
I was mistaken.
THere are a lot of games though that have used some pre-made asset.
Even the Original Doom based some of it's stuff off of actual real life architecture.
Not true, it would have been much much easier to clear up the misunderstanding if they gave people the source of the asset instead of insulting people. The only way people know the asset was from an asset store is because they did their own research, and you can't always rely on the will of other people.
It's fine, the asset is identical because it was traced from the GTA model by the person that uploaded it to the asset store (this is technically legal as it's completely new geometry), so it's a simple misunderstanding.
Every. Single. Game.
I would recommend you watch the Did You Know Gaming Youtube channel if you want to see the things Nintendo purchases. It comes up fairly often. But if you. need an example here, I would bring up the fairly public Zelda 64 debacle where Nintendo used a muslim chant in one of the dungeons and had to remove it due to protest. The chant they used is off a "stock music" CD and actually is featured in a number of other games as well.
The reason why Nintendo had "stock music CDs" laying around is because they use stock sound music and sound effects when they need to.
What, you think they go out and record footsteps for every single game they make? Rain? Lightning? Of course not. they use stock assets. And the same goes for textures. MIDI samples. Sound Effects. The list goes on and on.
Do they buy Mario off a stock asset site? No. But many games would.
It's simply inefficient to reinvent the wheel every single time and no professional has the time to do that.
I'm probably just cynical, but I really doubt that. Folks like SmashJT would just dismiss that as them making stuff up, and the ecosystem he's a part of would eat it up and believe the lies.
Didn't read what was actually written here in this thread, did you?
They bought an asset pack from the store, and in the asset pack someone had used a traced in asset from GTA Online.
Who's SmashJT?
The guy who popularized the rumor via his YT channel. A grifter with Woke Derangement syndrome.

Ah! okay.
Apparently he just adressed this and recognized that the asset was purchased.
I actually that tweet yesterday. I'm glad he acknowledges he got it wrong.

Also the guy here, earlier, who was claiming that he was "given a copy" of Dustborn and that he looked through all of the files and saw that "most of them" were stolen from Grand Theft Auto...
LOL. That's wacky and silly.
Yeah, I mean, I need to constantly remind myself that most of the people on here are probably 11. But all too quickly forget it.
