For those worried about this game spreading woke propaganda...
This is from an unknown dev, appealing to a very niche audience, among narrative games that are generally struggling.

What IS notable is how hard this leans into DEI. It feels like parody. IE: Generate free marketing via good old fashioned controversy... sound familiar? But overall? Even enjoying an occasional narrative game, yawn.

Market forces are not overly kind to smaller devs who leverage controversy instead of just building games that MANY people$ actually want to buy. Many gamers can get behind a really novel game. Small budget, 2D, ugly as hell, but just fun to play? Take our $$$.

I have no ill will towards those that "support diversity" but rage against diverse opinions..., but one thought: "You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means" Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride. ;)

That's not exactly true. Head of the studio, Ragnar Tornquist is well-known for his The Longest Journey game (and its sequels) and was a narrative designer for The Secret World and other Funcom MMOs.

Thanks for making the connection there Loot Hunter. I played Riven, Siberia etc. but none of the games you mentioned. Perhaps "relatively unknown" might be more fair. :)

That said, perhaps Ragnar's dev chops are being wasted a bit on this title which is leaning hard into a niche audience in a (increasingly) niche genre. But I guess we can just let market forces work these things out. :) Thanks for the reply.

Ragnar can make whatever game he wants. Niche games are cool. And anyway I think the game had a lot of state funding so I don't think he's worried about letting down any investors, which is also good.

The dev states the desire to tell a story... and given the nature of the genre used, the hard lean into DEI, and without any obvious novel elements, I just don't see there actually being a wide audience for this one.

So, its a win win. That small audience will get a game of sorts. Those that are concerned by the political theme have no need to fear this spreading much of anything. :)

I haven't played Riven, so what? TLJ popularity is actually on par with Syberia. And I definitely would recommend you to play Secret World MMO. Yes, it was abandoned, but the great story is still there and it's free.

Actually, I agree.

Thanks for the link / rec. Apparently Riven has a VR version now... but at least back in the day that was peak. Not sure how well the concept has aged, but good gaming memories.
