Runaway: A Road Adventure

micro review
This game is one of the worst unintuitive pixel hunt games I have ever played.

Dream of turtle (2) wasn't much better.

Don't think you can do them without a walkthrough, it's impossible.
The puzzles are totally unintuitive and many of the items needed are impossible to find without an arduous pixel hunt.

The third runaway (twist of fate) was actually pretty good, and yesterday was much better still. Next big thing was rather painful.

Anyway that's one useless opinion for you.

In retrospect I probably should have only played Yesterday.

Buy Yesterday!

I partially agree with you, yes. Some puzzles are very bad, too much pixel hunting. But if you can/may, try giving Hollywood Monsters a chance. I remember playing it when I was around 15 and I found it quite fun.

I'm starting to play them in order, I'm in the middle of Runaway.

Money well spent on that Pendulo Pack, anyways.

It's a rather harsh review in my eyes, I just finished the game and I actually enjoyed it. But I agree with some of BenWah points:

unituitive pixel hunt: too some point yes, once or twice I even found some critical items by chance while some area of the game were actually hidden by the scenery. I've played quite a few adventure games so It's not new but I felt directly frustrated many times in the game...

But pixel hunt for the best or the worst is part of the classical adventure games like Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island from the 90's, which Runaway tries rather successfully to emulate. Part of it is to make us take a closer look at the often well made if not artsy scene backgrounds game artists have worked hard to create.

The puzzles are totally unintiutive: Again , a very harch view, some were unintiutive , actually a few of them were of the board ridiculous (the one with the number ten wrench getting stuck in the mud annoyed me to no end!!! what were they thinking about??), I often found myself trying clicking and combining a lot of items rather randomly to find a solution that didn't make much sence.

Many more on the other hand were logical if you put some though and observation into it and the game was rather generous in giving slight hints about how to resolve some of the more cryptic puzzles without giving out too much away

But this is also on part with the typical classic adventure game, the puzzles have to be sufficiently convoluted to give the average gamer pause before solving the puzzle which hopefully make sence when it is solved. It's not allways the case here, but it is quite an art to make puzzle appear logicial without making them obvious on how to solve them.

A slight critic from my part is that there were too many typical adventure puzzles, combine item A and B on item on the scene C to solve the problem. And too few logical puzzles like the one where you must find the right combination of sound to communicate with the aliens in the canyon. It was logical , yet not so simple and it felt rather good solving it, more such puzzles in the game would have been great...

The storyline was rather cool if a bit ridiculous , the graphic were really nice especially considering the game is over 10 years old, which make the chores of trying out all kind of combination to solve the puzzles easier. The sound and music were not the best thing I've experienced but nice enough to make the experience of this game pleasant.

Another slight critic is toward the end of the game where you end up being more a spectator to the events in the game than the player, a long convoluted and yet logic in the end pluzzle would have been nice to finish off the story... But never the less I liked the game which I bought at a steam chistmassale and I look forward playing the next game in the serial.
