Runaway: A Road Adventure

Runaway: A Road Adventure

Game won't function properly?
I bought a couple of games from the Runaway series, I booted up "A Road Adventure" but whenever I get past the Focus-logo I get a black screen? During the cutscenes I would briefly get animations but when the actual game started I could hear when I howered my mouse over interactable objects.
Please help me if you know the solution to my problem.

Yes, I've got the same problem.

I must add that I tried the game while using the "Default display setup" and the one using my GC (Nvidia Geforce GTX970). None worked.

Also, the menu doesn't appear since past the opening logo, everything's black except for CG animated sequence.

Exactly my case as well. I messaged Steam Support and they told me to follow a game cache validation option under the properties of the game. But still nothing worked out..
Yeah well...I've found this :

"Since latest driver update two specific old games aren't working anymore Runaway A Road Adventure and Runaway The Dream of the Turtle. Whether it's Steam or GOG version. Both aren't working. Runaway 1 crashes right at the start ("doesn't work anymore"). Runaway 2 plays it first third-party logo, keeps running but don't show anyhting else but weird occasional flicker. Have to ALT+SHIFT+ESC and kill process manually.

I've tried rebooting, turning on and off shadowplay etc. Only a roll back to 347.09 did actually help. Even without reboot just right after finishing driver installation. So I'm pretty sure the problem is driver related.

In case it's relevant I never install 3D vision drivers since I don't need them.

EVGA Geforce 770 GTX
Windows 7 64bit
none of my hardware components is overclocked
AMD Phenom II X4 965
8GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GA 770TA UD3
Asus Xonar DG soundscard "

I haven't found the solution so far, but the roll back may do the trick.

Sounds promising. I might give it a go, if I figure out how to do it.
Thanks for the link!
Well, the term "roll back" simply means you have to use an older version of your driver.

Here, I did it and I can play the game.

What you have to do is simply to download and install this driver : http://www.nvidia.fr/download/driverResults.aspx/80946/fr (well, the link is in french since I am. You can see the driver Geforce 347.09 WHQL)

No need to reboot or anything. What I suggest till the solution is found is to keep both driver on your computer and rollback when you wanna play and launch the newest version when playing recent games !

I found a fix. It's the DSR Setting in Nvidia Control panel. You will have to disable it in order for the game to work. No need to roll-back... here's where I found the info:

Hope this helps.

Glad it helped.

sorry to warm up this old thread...

what if there's no option for "DSR Settings" in the nvidia control panel (driver: 361.43)? GFX: GTX780 with active surround (3 monitors and 1 extra)?

In my case with an AMD/RTG card (R280X) and Windows 10 Pro x64, it takes quite a while to start for an old game on a modern computer. Perhaps 30 seconds, but then it works. It's possible if you alt-tab or move away from the window before it started it has problems but I'm not sure. I seem to be able to alt-tab fine now that it's started from the in game menu.

Edit: Spoke to soon hard problems later. I'll post these in another thread since this seems to do with DSR Settings and Nvidia cards

I have the same driver, and the DSR Settings is there... under Global Settings. It's called, "DSR Factors" now.

no there isn't - has something to do with surround, as a more thorough googleing showed up

For my card (GTX970) it is there: Sample[i.imgur.com]

Thanks for the shots - I know, where it should be, but it isn't. Trust me, I can read ;-)

It sounds like DSR isn't supported with Surround configs https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/784180/geforce-drivers/system-configurations-currently-supporting-dsr-as-of-driver-344-65/

So presuming the problem is caused by some sort of conflict between DSR and the game, I don't think you're problem is the same. Are you having the same black screen problem? Have you tried disabling the other 2/3 monitors before starting the game?
