Dog (possible spoilers?)

Is there a way to save the dog in the game, and does it affect the ending at all?

I tired to bc theres an achievement called "Best Friend" so im assuming its possible, I tried ignoring it (and also first spotting it, not even going up to the dog when Jim exclaims he sees Nibull in the trap) and running back to Ariane directly after (both times) but it says "Cest Ferme" (It's Closed) so then I tried to talk to the groundskeeper who says to keep it secret from her and it still says her door is closed. there may be a key somewhere in the house, but I have yet to figure it out and what I did so far is the closest ive gotten to something

ok i just got it, you do have to kill the dog and then have the shovel and bury it to get the achievement. unfortunatly there is no way to save Nibull :( that is why her door is locked

Thanks Christa, that's really helpful! It's a shame there's no way to save Nibull. It seems fitting that we have to bury it, like final respects rather than leaving it in a trap. (edited for poor typing)
